just looked at free-stats and everyone has lost most if not all of theyr cands, so i assumed that it was just freestats but when i log onto d2ol ive only got about 400 out of what should be about 13000 :stick:

looks like they dropped the ball on this one...

D2OL shows LBM with 0 cands... so unless they can figure out a way to sort this out, UCmajewski and I just lost credit for 600,000 candidates and nearly a years worth of time and effort.
I sure am glad to be done with the project.

Dropped the ball? Your a hell of a lot more generous than I am! Can you imagine running what is supposed to be a professional lab without backup in depth? I'm not talking Johnny's home PC with a Raid1 so he won't lose Granny's pics but an enterprise class server that protects critical data.
I just tried to post on that forum and evidently you can't reply to anything "Charles" posts. I was denied access when I hit reply. I guess thats one way to keep from getting negative responses.
After seeing the issues with the often down servers, the potential for cheating, the lack of info from them to asked questions on the state of the project and now this: Makes me feel that it was not properly run from the start.
The other side is that I am truly sorry they lost the info. Forget the time and expense to all, it's the science lost that is the greatest loss.

We took #1 spot from a powerful team.:fact:
Other than that this project has left me feeling empty
Edit I hope that the info. obtained will benefit future generations.
? I think I already posted my opinion here:
This is the dead for d2ol - this is a total project reset for all doing this for a long time...for us the stats are the most important things.
I still can't believe how many probs they have with their hard disks...
I'm very happy I'm already on rosetta...even I really liked d2ol and will continue to run it on slower machines but it isn't the same anymore now :(

Bok has backups of the stats and he can reload them into the Free-DC stats. While I doubt they will be official (from TRI's perspective), they will at least be mostly accurate.

Ive been quiet on all of the little mishaps, but this is enough. I think im pretty much decided on dropping this project and switching to Rosetta or something a bit more productive.
Infact, im putting all of my production on hold from here on out till they get their crap straight.
Im moving to standford folding team personaly.

The "What's New" forum is the only one where you cannot post a reply (news from project only). There are threads in the lounge and support areas where you can post replies.
The science was not lost. Just the stats area for now. I would assume they would reset stats when the new client is released anyway.

thats it, i just unistalled d2ol and then deleted my d2ol folders.
i still had a couple of cands ready but i deleted them after reading more details about this.
i cant believe anybody pays or supports sengent in any way... they must have no idea of what a lousy organization it is...
i cant and dont want to express my anger in words...
im going to check out rosetta some more before i install it, i dont want to see history repeating itself.
To be honest... I'm embarrassed I even ran this project. I had a hunch early on that it was a loser but I just couldn't get away from it. Wish I called it quits long ago. :(
IMHO, Charles should stop the project now since the stats are gone and focus on re-writting the client so cheating will not be such a big issue. He has stated more than once that this is required and now is a great time considering he screwed up the stats.
BTW, the poll needs some other options... I'm not really a HUGE fan of Rosetta but I will NOT be running D2OL any time soon... if ever again.

Hopefully with the new client coming out soon (I hope since they got a new programmer/mod) then we'll see some good changes. As far as the whole d2ol thing goes, I had a bunch of fun doing it. Yes, I'm pissed that I wasted my parents money running 3 comps 24/7 for nothing, but I'm happy I did it for the laughs.

it was a great time!!! no doubt! :)
but this has nothing to do with d2ol or sengent!
it was US having a good time, we would have had the same (probably even more :P) fun if we would have run another project!
what did sengent ever do for us?
we donate them an incredible amount of cpu power and all we want in return is a stable safe and updated client, and stable and fast servers, and to know what our cpu power is used for.
thats the basics and sengent didnt manage to provide even a SINGLE point of the 3 points above! nothing!
not even a "thank you" for all the cpu power we and everybody else dedicated, in contrary! questions get ignored or deleted!
i cant believe you guys still want to help sengent and support d2ol after all this!
IT CANT GET ANY WORSE!
you have been asked for a favour and helped, and in return youve been spit in the face and yelled at and you still wanna help out?
thats really really nice of your guys, but you should really reconsider this!
d2ol wont go anywhere, your wasting your time and effort!
there are really nice projects with very dedicated people who are begging for help and are willing to help us instead of ignoring us like sengent!
does anybody know what the cpu power we offered sengent was used for?
do you honestly believe this malaria and anthrax stuff?
well i dont, not anymore... work like that would lead to results, results that sengent would be proud of and publish and tell us about!
either their client and way or working on those diseases is so buggy that they couldnt reach any results, or they are actually hiring the computing power of their network to a third party who could do anything with it!
searching a large database, indexing a large database, and thats only the harmless things our cpu power could be used for!
and in either case, if the client is either too buggy to produce usefull results, or if the client was actually working on something else, sengent doesnt deserve to be even looked at!
your support despite of how bad sengent has treated all of us is heartwarming, but its a lost effort if you ask me...
there are people dieing out there right now!
there are clients that actually produce valuable results to save peoples lives!
THATS what we should support!
thats what I am going to support!

Saaya: Well put! I think of DC work as a partnership. I give them my $10,000+ in PC equipment and app $60.00 a month in elec cost. What I want from them is simple:
1) a goal that is usefull to mankind
2) a professionally managed operation
3) qualified full time IT dept
4) quality equipment with back up in depth
5)"some" communication on how things are going.
Even a once a week paragraph is fine by me.
I don't know "Charles" at all. He could be the most wonderfull guy in the world.
My instincts tell me that he in charge of an operation that works on a shoestring budget. That would be Sengents problem, not his.
The only part of this mess that I can directly attribute to him is the failure to
communicate with the teams.
What bothered me the most was his comments on D2OL's forum the other day.
I'm paraphrasing but I got the feeling he didn't consider the stats important at all. Does he think that people donate hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment without at the very least wanting to keep track of their donation to a project? I don't think he gives one iota of thought to the teams or to the immense contribution they make.

well that would be ideal... i can fully understand if its not possible to reach all those goals and dont offer all of the points you mentioned, but sengent doesnt even fullfill ONE of those goals, and it doesnt look like they EVER will... it doesnt even look like they are trying to reach at least one of those goals!
and if charles beckius is such a great person he would work for a company like sengent whos making money, and not just a few bugs, and doesnt even use a fraction of its funds to improve the client or even fix the most urgent issues!
a company or organization that can afford to have something like d2ol as a project MUST have enough money to even get the projects iessues fixed.
even if its doing free research for the sake of humanity... and afaik thats actually not what d2ol does, they most likely rent their d2ol system and get money for it. yet they cant even afford to get d2ol running like it should, not even mentioning improving the client :stick:
what exactly is charles beckius position?
whats does he do?
we all know what he doesnt do, but what does he actually do?
i dont know... i have no idea... all i see and hear is that he doesnt do this and doesnt do that... so what exactly does he do?
fixing the servers... and he seems to be really good at it since they keep crashing at least once a week almost since i can remember.
