my computer was workin fine a few hours ago but i tried turin it on a bit later and a blue screen popped up that said

Stop: c0000218{registry file failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \systemRoot\system32\Config\SOFTWARE

the thing is im not 100% sure if this is what it said because it restarted about 10 seconds later...im pretty sure it is, i know the file path is correct. so is it possible to fix this, or am i screwed and need to reinstall?
Thanks

Hive file... went over that in class today. lol
If I remember right, that is the registry backup... maybe thats the actual registry information. Hrm... looks like I need to re-read my notes huh? lol

Looks like your registry got fubared somehow. Have you tried booting into "Last Known Good Configuration"? If not give that a try.
If that doesnt do it, I would try to get into safe mode and see if you can figure out what is wrong with the registry. Im not to sure how to go about that honestly.

If neither of those work, I am not to sure personally.

Welcome to the Xtreme!
