I had a Newcastle 3500 but after trying to remove the IHS and failing, I picked up a S939 Opteron 148. I have been struggling for a week now to get the system stable but its not happening. Memtest is stable up to 275 at 2.5-3-3-6 1T and Prime95 is fine at Small FFT up to 2700 or so, but Prime95 wont pass for more than 2min at 4096 FFT (the best way I know to test memory in windows) unless I drop the memory down to 220 2.5-3-3-6 2T. What on earth is going on? Memory controller? Motherboard screwed up from trying to make my old chip that got dmg from IHS removal work? I'm trying to figure out what to replace first, MB, RAM or CPU?

939 Opty 148
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
OCZ PC4000 Rev 2
OCZ Powerstream 520w

Haven't tired SuperPi yet but it causes lockups in games so I doubt its just a problem w/ Prime.
i have a similar problem, im SPI 32M/ bench stable up to 310x10 ram 1:1 @ 1.55v
but im NOT sp2004/game stable @ 1.6v @ 265x11.
makes little sense.

First of all...Optys like a 5/6 Divider. Try that...also loosen your timings alittle if even unstable at a 5/6 Divider.
This is why I sold my Opty when I did...I couldn't get anything stable with my RAM at all. My Prime would fail within 30 seconds everytime no matter what the overclock was.

From my little experience you have to try some different MAL and RP sets. I have an Opteron 148 and had few problems with Ballistix and now I'm using 1GB Mushkin Redline + 512K Mushking old BH6. Perfectly stable at 2-2-2-5 2T @ 246MHz 3.3V

the Opty memcontroller is weird, cuz on 1:1 i could go with Winnie to 280 @ 2.7V , with my Opty only 270 , but I tryed the 5/6 divider and its perfect! its even better than with my Winnie, strange, why?

Well, I'm trying out the 5/6 divider but its still not looking promising, I cant hit 200 2.5-3-3-8 1T. Do you think I just got a HORRID memory controller or could I have somehow messed up the mb w/ my old chip that was screwed up from a messy IHS removal?
