Ok, Im already getting confused which is better than the others, so Im really desperate for help...

Ok, I have an Opteron 170 CCBWE 0530TMPW (Just got it at Monarch :D) but right now, I want to shift to a 2gb kit :D Question is, which is better? :D Here are my options...

1. Crucial Ballistix PC4000
2. Mushkin XP Redline PC4000
3. Team Group CE6/UCC PC4000
4. OCZ 4000 EB
5. G Skill HZ
6. Corsair

Now, I really like the Crucial Ballistix, but since a lot of you are having problems with this, do you think this will be a gamble if I buy this? And what could be the cause of those problems? I have a crab cooler for my mems if heat is the main cause :D

And about the Mushkin, I saw 2 of those, the Redline and the one with the Black Heatspreader, any diff between the two?

All i need is something that will perform pretty well :D I need to reach 280fsb w/ a decent timing (3-4-4-8 or tighter :D) :D Any suggestions guys?:D Any info you'd like to add will be great! :D

there's another teamgroup that you might want to consider that's remarkably similar to the ballistix. i'm still working on the review of the stuff.. i need a new cpu, this opteron's memory controller seems to be giving me some issues ;)

You can go with the Ballistix and hope to god that they don't burn out (they have been doing that lately)
Or
Go with the G.Skill Hz (UCCC) and Push their limits

I wouldn't bother with the ballistix.
they been having far too many burn outs for me to want to bother with them.

Mushkins PC4000 or OCZ PC4000 is what I would suggest.

Boy isn't this helpful

I vote the G.Skill because it can get there with 3-4-4-8 and stock volts

I have mushkin Xp4000's and I love them. very over clockable got to 275mhz with no troubles within an hour, also life time warranty good support.

Boy isn't this helpfulWhat's so bad about corsair because I'm using them for my comp, and I'm not an OCer if it matters.

My Ballistix Z503's burned out this weekend (purchased Oct 20, 2005). I would get the OCZ PC4000 Platinum's. Best timings and I have NEVER had OCZ ram fail even with 5 rigs running 7x24 at 100%. Can't go wrong with OCZ

So it's between G SKill, Mushkin and OCZ huh? :D Hmm... because I was looking for something that reaches 280 but with timings below the usual 3-4-4-8 :D Hopefully either one of them can do it right?:D

Here's about the best and honest run-down of DDR1 in 2GB right now:

Ballistix are unquestionably the best you can physically buy, in partial because Micron makes it that way. Your next best bet from there is going to be Infineon based with either CE5 or CE6, however if you do that you are taking a gamble with the overclock. Its nothing against Infineon, but their yeilds as a whole are way over the chart and have serious consitancy issues. Something which the Samsung UCCC does not have a problem with.

That being said if you buy a CE6 kit from either us (the pc4000 redline) or from OCZ you have a 50:50 odds of getting something that will overclock heavily, or not at all depending upon the yeilds at the time.

Last I heard CE6 was kinda shakey and having issues meeting our spec. That does not mean anything is neccessarly wrong with it, on the contrary we always make a significant effortto make sure it meets expectations as does OCZ. However your overclock may or may not be what *you* are looking for.

Now if you need clocks above 280 no questions asked, you should look away from the CE6 offerings and take a look at UCCC. I was told specifically that the UCCC that we are getting right now is absolutely fantastic and quite a few of them are hitting in the 290-300 range with 3-4-4.

The other option from our PC4000 (3-3-4) would be the ballistix. They are undoubtibly the best clocking chips, but it is at the expense of stability. Much like the older -5BDs they have a *very* high return/failure rate over long periods of time while overclocked. Some people have gone through multiple sets (over 3), so you take a gamble with that as well.

All in all I'd suggest something UCCC based both for its reliability and consistancy. But if you are only looking for 260ish then by all means get either our or OCZ's CE6 kits.

You mean Corsair is OK for non-OCers?

How about sending a pair my way to replace my CE-6 crap sticks then? ;)

take a guess as to what it is. it's NOT the two you mentioned though ;)

i ran some other benches, aquamark and 3dmark03, it's rock solid at those speeds
though to not be misleading, it is 2T, but that's where a new cpu comes in ;)

ozzimark,

I am still shopping for another 2GB set. Have those modules been released yet? Is that the same Micron IC used in Ballistix? I'm looking for 285-290MHz 3-3-3-8 1T :D

not the same, it's similar though ;)

afaik, they have not yet been released :( hopefully they will be soon

omg! look at those timings! :D Any idea when they'll be released?:D

Oh yeah, what mems are UCCC based and which is Infineon?:D So that I know what to pick :D
