so.. have had watercooling a few years now.. just noob vmodded my gtx.. and the comp seems perfect...
that = bad.
must find new and interesting ways to try to kill it... (and write my name in some frost dmmt...)
enter, the urge to water chill..

ANYWAY.. onto the crappy pics/questions..

just ripped this out of my window and tore it apart and have it all over the kitchen floor:

and also have a dehumidifier torn apart at the bottom of the basement steps..

think either of these would be worth modding? the ac tubing definitely looks like it'd need some bending... which kinda sucks.
don't even know where to start with a dehumidifier...

ac was $250ish a few years ago.. think i'd be better off just buying a new sub-$100 one? and does anyone know of any cheapo's which are Plug And Write your name in the frost?(aka no tube bending needed..)

both compressors are r22 btw..

Thanks.. sorry for the crappy camera:(

both of those would make excellent chillers if you ask me

I'm currently leaning pretty heavy towards the ac.. kinda wanna try to keep the controls too..(remote control ftw..) will these copper tubes be a problem to bend though? seem pretty thick..may be able to get ahold of a bending tool...
but still forsee the "pssssss" sound and liquid flying everywhere in my future.. (maybe some frozen fingers to go with it..)

If it was me, I would probably use the AC.

If you arent using the a/c unit anymore then you might as well try that first. If you do end up breaking a tube then you can look at buying another or getting it brazed. No sense in going out and buying another unit if you have one there for free(essentially free if you dont have to buy another).

just did some messing around.. put tape over the front fan fins.. and stuck the ac probe in a shoe...

http://home.comcast.net/~ogrex/frostywires.JPG
http://home.comcast.net/~ogrex/frostycrap.JPG
temp probes crapped out right at -0c.. which was annoying
I dunno what to do.. I think this unit would be quite a PITA(for me with no tools atm) to try to mod.. the fan mounting is all connected to the black front mounting... and still would have to bend the tubes quite a bit..

bending the tubes is possible, however go slow...and plan ahead to avoid kinks. make sure you do not bend any brasings and you -should- be fine. ive bended my dehumidifyer meny times here and there, and so far ive been lucky.

just a few questions:

1: how can you make a waterchiller out of his? Put the radiator(rad?) in a large tub which your water passes through?
2: is that a standard air-con unit you're using?

yeah.. you just put it into a cooler or whatever you can find...seems from what i've read you can no longer use water at the low temps though.. have to switch to alcohol/methanol etc...
and yeah a standard ac from target..

For the bending, find yourself one of these (http://uniweld.com/catalog/tubing_tools/3_1_benders.htm) at an auto parts or hardware store. Makes even the tightest bends nearly risk free. (I did say nearly)

You seem to have the right idea, here a few pics of my chiller, almost complete.

so.. my current plan is to try to bend it at the little red arrow and try to bend the whole evap to the side... and the cap tubes up like the blue shows...(really don't even think I can get my benders on the thing...)
http://home.comcast.net/~ogrex/bend.JPG

anyone think there would be an easier way?...

this thing just sucks for bending whatsoever imo.
(and please excuse my uber mspaint skillz.. I just woke up and think I'm going back to bed...)
