Hi,

This is me first post here so be nice :)

Ok I am wanting to start OCing and have been putting together a new computer for just this. My spec will be:

Opteron 146 @ 3GHz i hope guy said it has been tested at this
DFI Ultra - D
2GB of ram

Now here is where i need your help. I have narrowed it down to OCZ memory as i like there EVP warranty. These are the 2 sets i am looking at:

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC4000 Dual Channel Platinum Series EB-DDR CAS3

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC4000 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR CAS3

Now first off i definetly want to OC them. Next which would give me a good overclock? I think that the EB is better but would i really notice much differance from the Gold in actual real world performance - ie in games, i have BF2 & COD2??

Any help and info you can give me is much appreciated.

I would think that the platinums would perform better.

I was just about to post almost the same question.
Also, Im going to have a very similar setup as you but my Opty will a 150.
The only difference with my question was should I go with with this
OCZ Gold
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227219
or
G Skill
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231021

But since you're deciding between those two, I would go with the Plats.
To my knowledge, the performance is that much bigger than the Gold you listed and the price difference isnt justified.
So if I was you, I wouldnt go with either and go with the Gold I listed.
Its the same as the XTC just not the heatspreader and performs very close to Plats, and is cheaper than both.
Though, if you're interested, that G Skill is also really good and even cheaper.
In the 2gb database and many reviews I've read, both are performing very close.

Sorry for got to mention I am in the UK and i am ordering most of my bits from Overclockers.co.uk and they don't do that memory. Filmbot you said that I should go for the Plats then in the next sentance said the price differance isn't worth it over the gold? Bit confused now lol.

Haha, Im sorry.
I was meaning, if you were dead set on making the decision between those two, go with the Plats, because they're the best.
But then I was informing you that, I think, the price difference isnt worth it.
And also to tell you that you shouldnt really pay the extra 20 for the heatspreaders between the two Gold kits.
Hah, still confusing?

it's either the OCZ platinum EB pc4000 3-3-2 (infineon be-5?) or G.Skill HZ pc4000 3-4-4-8 (samsung UCCC).
The OCZ Gold is UCCC also and gskill is just alot cheaper. If price isnt an issue just take the platinum eb.

I think the CE-5 has been gone a while now and current batches use CE-6 which is hitting a 3D stability wall at ~258MHz regardless of timings.
