the perils of 3dmark benchmarking

I thought I was on a roll and the temp outside in England is cool at the moment so I thought i would finally knock Colin off top spot for the GF4 MX 440 and maybe get top spot, or close, in the GF4 4400 ti catagory.

So people wished me luck and I pulled down my goggles...

Oh god.

I'm not even extreme overclocker. I use air only. I blow it about a bit and open the bedroom window, nothing too complicated. Nothing with water or somthing so cold you daren't spill it all over your trousers.

I fiddled about with rivatuner
Then I got 3dmark saying Direct X 8 was not installed ( I don't remember clicking that option in rivatuner :confused: )
I reinstalled direct X 8. I threw in DX9 for good measure.
I reinstalled the service pack, and the 4.52 drivers.

Still it reports no directX8.

I finally had to reinstall Windows 2k and everything else ....

2 hours later I had not done one benchmark. My wife said she won't sleep with me now due to my lack of success.

I'm off to bed.

Alone and dejected.

SOunds like youve messed with the texture settings in rivatuner. Have you disabled RGB or anything in that section? Some of them disable key directx functions which 3dmark checks for and needs in use. Try setting rivatuner back to default settings and see what happens. I had this problem myself a while ago.

Thanks for the advice PiLsY , however I put Windows 2000 on again and new install got rid of a lot of rubbish and it seems to be running more quickly. As KingInge2000 will tell you it is pretty tight at the top in this section and so I think I might have enough to jump a few places.

-1C again tonight so will have a good chance.

Just got to get rid of this hangover now at work.

But I'm on lower CPU clock.
If I can go with more than 1.9 V I'm around 2.4 Ghz.
I only need about 250 more points 2 go. Hope 2 hit the 16K (450 more points) soon.
I need more ram voltage, but i'm 2 lazy 2 remove my whole watercooling again.

Your graphics card runs alot higher RAM than me, 715 v 650, but my core speed is slightly up. I have a higher cpu speed and twin RAm but your FSB leaves me for dead.

No wonder its close. Good luck !

Without a new radiator, this is my limit, i think.
Temps are 2 high.
But before i get a new graca, i'll be on top.

What mobo are you using? You beat me in all of the car/lobby tests even though I'm 136MHz higher on the cpu and only 4MHz lower on the fsb. It says NForce but I assume it's a NF2?

Are you brining more hardware to the party or tweaking what you have got ?

If you beat me I'm going to have not much to respond with as that was at the limit of my present setup. I'm waiting for Barton but I guess by that time 3dmark 2003 will be out.

Mhh, I'll get some copper on my vreg and try to get one loop stable @ 2.1 V 10.5*227. I also got me a bigger HDD. 2 GB instead of 1 GB so I have enough space to defrag.
I'll also add some heatsinks to my graca mem and maybe mod it.
My T.E.C. projekt is planned in march or april ...:D
If nothin works, i go 4 the athlon 64:D :D :D
