hey team we are in dimes as well now!
I opened a team there cuz it pings only and needs no cpu power...so dimes & r@h is a very good combination running on 2 of my systems now.
Jeff asked for some help, i would be very happy if sb. of you pm me for more details on how to join the xs_team_germany dimes
I switched 2 rigs on work back to r@h and the dualie p3 as well...so almost everything for r@h now - next update we'll get him hrhr

thx, had much higher production, but i have some problems with my computers in the last days, so most of the time only the laptop is running one instance of dimes. need more ram in the laptop for 1-2 vms (256mb is way to less).
well I don't like VMs - tested it on work to have the software we develop on different versions on different os but I won't use it at home.
I need performance, ram and speed - before I install a VM I buy myself another system -.-
For the moment I'm satisified with output on both rigs, but they don't run 24/7 unless I surely know if I will get some more money soon or not ^^
the gigabyte wlan card delivered together with the k8nxp-sli seems to be crap - after a night the connection is aborted and normally I have to deactivate and activate it manually...today it even needed a reboot before working again :(
I really would like to get myself a new router with more lan ports but money is missing atm grrrrr
(I'm still sitting on my damaged compressor, because of a small car crash I had to pay 550€ repair....that was the compressor repair and full mod........)

Well' i'm fairly new, so i had hoped you could fill me in, cause what in the name of an unspoken master, are they doing here.
1 The german soccer team on testing before the WC ?
2 Tourists ?
3 immigrants ?

Yes, you are fairly new here, which is why you might not get the joke.
While Rodzilla was gone for a while before back in D2OL, a few sub-teams had formed, specifically, the Collegiate Mafia, The Collective, Circle of Destruction, and Les_Salauds (sp), which later became XS_VIP, and Team Germany.
When Rod came back, he didn't really know what was going on with the sub-teams, and apparently hadn't noticed Team Germany. While all of the rest of us knew Team Germany, Rod didn't.
At one point, someone was talking about Team Germany, and Rod replied, "We have a team germany?"

So XS_VIP, DDT_Cattle_Prods, etc are sub teams of team XS?
Rather than just fold under your member name you fold for one of those teams and it shows in the stats as that team instead of just you?
Sorry to the OP and Team Germany for the OT :)

sub teams are nice for those of us that dont have that much production, that want to have pie.
Me, bullet2urbrain, vapor, trakslacker, dragonorta, absolute_0, and a few others started up collegiatemafia back in d2ol, we all missed our pie we got on the 2nd page, so we made a subteam so we could enjoy it again:)

Yes you can.
Open the task manager. There are two rosetta...exe processes. Right click on them and use the option on the bottom, cant remember what its called. Something like "Zugehörigkeit auswählen". Choose the same core for both processes. That works as long as the current Wus are being computed. With new WUs, you have to do it again.

Just wondering, that 4 x 512 MB is much slower then 2 x 512 MB, but it´s a very nice test to check stability...;)
Does every core get his own ID? I guess, yes...;)
Got it, no 2 ID´s, it´s just SNOWCHRASH...:D
Just wondering, that I have such a bad average, optimazition files are allready installed...:(

Ye that would be nice SoF.
I was also thinking Yonah would be faster than that :/
But what is nice, is the low power consumption? Are you sure it only needs 100W for the whole system during load or is it just a guess? Might sell a dew AXPs and get one or 2 of those. But then again running 64bit Linux would be usefull for me too, because thats the os I mainly use, so I d have to wait for conroe ..
Just noticed you are running below 1v vcore O_o
Whats stock vcore and speed and which board are you using?
Hmmm do you have the same problem like me?
XS members really send too many pms lol
stummerwinter
04-23-2006, 11:00 AM
The 110 W are measured with Energy Check from Conrad, it´s for the whole system...;)
Wintermute (see Sig) needs approx 75 W under load...;)
CPU: T2600 ES @ 230 x 13 @ 1,40 V (1,425 V set in BIOS)
MoBo: AOpen i975Xa
RAM: still testing (either 2 x 512 MB Mushkins or 2 x 512 MB Syncmax)
I really don't wanna know what my sig with all its light and staph eats ^^
the only advantage that the compressor is damaged - I save energy ;)
but very impressive wattages...think some of such systems could increase my farm here soon lol

I should optimize the 2 systems. The Server runs @ standard voltage. Around 2,5GHz is the limit.
The T2600 limit is around 3250Mhz on Air. The Crucial is only 100% stable 4-3-3-12 @ 385Mhz. Dont`t want to run 4-4-4-12 ;)

I'm impressed how many points I get when the X2 is running 24/7. I have the feeling these are the best rigs for r@h. Talked to movieman last night about benches and I think I have to go for a small OC session. This cpu might handle 2500 or even 2600MHZ for a bench, afterwards have to go back to low voltz and 2250MHZ to keep temperatures below 60°C.

I have to reinstall my OS, so what should I do with the boinc folder? Just copy it to the new OS?
Or install boinc completly new and get a new ID too?

copy the current folder, works great and most likely you wont get a new id, just be sure to install all the patches first before you start boinc.

You have to install exactly the same updates and computer name must be the same + the Boinc ids. Sometimes it doesnt work, but most of the time it does.

hey raiden don't worry sometimes boinc got his silent moments ^^ check firewalls and network activities to see what's going on there.
when I changed from opteron to x2 I simply started the boinc from the data partition and everything went fine...no new id but it updated the processor itself.

Would be really nice to see how EM64-T performs compared to AMDs. In case you have a spare HDD or partition and some free time, give it a go.

Btw. We got a message from David Baker to the team account, which I will copy and paste here, so it wont look too well.
Dear Rosetta@home Participants, A wonderful aspect of Rosetta@home for me has been the marvelous contributions of the many dedicated volunteers around the world. We are about to begin the 7th biennial CASP Structure Prediction Experiment and from May 10th until August 1st our need for computing power will be even greater. In a bid to solicit more of your 'crunching time', R@H volunteers have put together the following letter which we are sending to all participants. With all of your collective efforts it should be possible to do wonders! Thank you! David Baker
Rosetta@home logo
Dear Rosetta@home Contributors,
We are writing you to thank you for donating your computer time to Rosetta@home. We'd also like to bring you an update on recent improvements as well as ask for your help during this year's Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction (CASP7).
Rosetta@home is working to develop software to accurately predict the folding structure of proteins, which is a key function in developing cures for diseases such as AIDS, cancer, and Alzheimer's. The Rosetta software is used by other scientists and distributed computing projects. Any improvement we can make in this project will benefit other scientists and projects as well.
Cutting-Edge Research with an all new Application package
The Rosetta@home science application has improved greatly in recent weeks. We now have "smarter" software and new techniques which help find the best structures faster. We have also released a number of new features:
* Work unit runtimes based on preference setting can minimize your internet use.
* More frequent saves (checkpointing), means more science output and more credits for you and your team.
* The "Watchdog" keeps work flowing by ending work units that appear stuck or hung.
* All work units will receive credit even if they return late or with an error result.
All these improvements guarantee a problem-free and most useful contribution of your valuable computer time.
CASP7 is here - Be part of the competition and the winning team!
Dr. David Baker - the lead scientist of the project
There are many science teams working on protein studies, and every 2 years they conduct a contest of sorts, to define the current state-of-the-art. Now the 2006 event is underway, and you can help. CASP will present proteins no one has ever seen before and ask the research teams to give their best structure predictions for this computationally intense problem. We are very hopeful the improved Rosetta software, now with the added power of distributed computing, will again find the most accurate predictions.
CASP7 runs from May 10th to August 1st. The more computing power we apply, the better the predictions become. Please be sure to run Rosetta@home, at least during the three month period of the competition. Read more about CASP7, and check for published results on the Rosetta@home website through the end of the year.
Be a part of the project team with new information and user recognition
A number of new informational features have been added to help you participate with the research team:
* "Dr. Baker's science journal" where the project's lead scientist posts regular updates and project news.
* Work Unit information describes the proteins and tests being performed for each work unit type.
* The Application Version Log explains new features and scientific improvements in the application.
The project staff is very responsive to questions and suggestions and is working to incorporate them into Rosetta application improvements.
What you can do to help
* If you discontinued Rosetta for any reason, please attach again and you will find the application improvements have resolved the problems many were having.
* Dedicate a greater resource share to Rosetta, at least during CASP7.
* Attach additional computers to the project.
* Contact your friends and teammates and help them learn more about Rosetta so they will want to crunch more too. Here is a simple explanation you might use.
* If you are a member of a team, please ask for more Rosetta processing time on your team message boards.
Thank you for your past participation, and we hope you can provide additional support to Rosetta@home in the future.
Mark, Joachim, Gerry and the Rosetta@home volunteers
P.S.: Still not convinced? Take a look at "10 reasons why I support Rosetta@home and you should too."
P.P.S.: Your account preferences suggest that you wouldn't mind recieving our rare newsletters. If this is not true, you can 'opt-out' of future mailings by changing the "Should Rosetta@home send you email newsletters?" setting in your account preferences here: Rosetta@home preferences

Anyways, something weird is going on with my rosetta. I was wondering why my stats didnt increase and my last contact according to the stats was 1 May but i saw a second XP-M comp there created 2 May with similar average credit. So did my node change or what the hell is going on here? :hm: :hm: :hm:

I agree about the intra-mini-competitions! I've always enjoyed the little tug of wars amongst teammates. Fun stuff!
BTW, I'm not slamming you guys. At all. Was just commenting on your increased production and prodding you on to even higher output.
BTW, I'm off work for the next week or so, and have some irons in the fire as far as increased production. Expect the production target to rise a bit. I'm still messing with the 2nd dual Xeon. Just tested it, all systems go! Then I turned it off, as I need to put it in a case. Too many friggin caseless systems around here. So, I'm ripping the innards out of an old AXP system/case, right now, and going to put the DX in that.
And then there is the parts arriving this week from a few places. Have one more little thing planned...
Thanks, SoF.
I agree about the intra-mini-competitions! I've always enjoyed the little tug of wars amongst teammates. Fun stuff!
Thanks as well for the competition ;) Funny to climb up in our team rank and seeing how we dominate in total-team-rank "by the way" :D
BTW, I'm not slamming you guys. At all. Was just commenting on your increased production and prodding you on to even higher output.
sure, this is what is the real fun in projects like these is for me - a friendly, respectful and open competition ;)
BTW, I'm off work for the next week or so, and have some irons in the fire as far as increased production. Expect the production target to rise a bit. I'm still messing with the 2nd dual Xeon. Just tested it, all systems go! Then I turned it off, as I need to put it in a case. Too many friggin caseless systems around here. hehe this sounds like what I'm expecting from xs - who needs cases, not even finished rigs already counting for the team...just see the d2ol topic from me...not even finished testing the sdram and cpu is overclocked and running again :D :D :D 30k daily will be no problem for you in the future as far as I can read here so we really have to even increase clocks and/or systems to keep up with the top5 - it'll be fun :fact: :hehe:

I don't know about that. Not sure wear I'll end up. Today's stats are more like my recent normal. Free-DC's stats have been kind of wacked for a few days. Looks like they're settled down, now.
So around high 22's - low 23's is the starting point. With the additions, upgrades I hope to be able to do, maybe, 26 - 27K. When they're all done and things are normalized. In the meantime, some machines are down, some machines are being upgraded or having they're setups modified. Things here will be in flux til maybe next Sunday. Hopefully, I'll be done by then and I can see where things finally settle in.

What happend to our production?
We went from 23-25k to not even 10k a day now :/
With 15k+ a day we could become the #1 of german rosetta teams, but with the current output they are even getting a bigger gap..

This is my overclocked rig, a P3 1Ghz scores about 200/400 higher on both benches.

EDIT:
My old P3 1Ghz was still in the list:

I had those issues too a while ago. I dont know how I fixed it. Try rebooting, reinstaiing boinc. If that doesnt work, format and reinstall os and boinc.

I hate reboots when the phase is already on full power...it always takes me a while to get the right time to heat it up and clock it. I hate CB, really looking forward to conroe :slobber:
Anyway up and running again, reboot fixed it, thanks :)

Looks like a 10k day :)
3500 credits from my ho and 1150 frm my Sempron :)
I am thinking about selling the sempron to get a cheap allendale rig. But I need some money first. And the new credit system will be implemented soon.
