you know that smell? like a faint smell of burning electrical stuff? yeah, i think i just fried my psu on my brand new rig. antec smart power 2.0 450w. decent psu, but i guess 100% load on it with a dual core pentium 820 running at 100% plus encoding dvd's was too much for it. this pisses me off. i probbaly cant rma just the psu, as i bought the sonata II case and it included the psu. nothing is overclocked and is within specs of the psu, so it is not my fault, wither. looks like i'm not f*&king around anymore...i need that ocz 600w powerstream. how annoying that my primary dual cruncher goes down less than 24 hrs old

I never had any probs with a crappy 300 W PSU at all, and that was with my 820 @ D2OL...

maybe it was the fact that i have rosetta (does 2 at one time automatically), dimes, and encoding dvd's at the same time, not to mention a total of 63 programs running, utilizing a full 1000mb of ram and 100% cpu according to task manager. good thing i got a big typhoon cooling that toaster. i just ordered an enermax liberty 620w psu because the 600w ocz's are sold out at the egg and i cant wait. rma'ing the psu will be a chore i think, as it came with the case, and i dont wanna ship back the case.

That enermax could be no better than the antec :stick: (no, I do not like enermax).

Hope my 600w powerstream is still good.. found out last night it was dropped by friend while in storage at his place :slapass:

i am an AMD guy as well, but i got the cpu and motherboard both retail for $250 shipped...the cpu alone is that much and the mobo goes for $125 on the egg, so thats why i have a pentium...that and i had this 2x 1gb ddr2 laying around.

i've had good luck with enermax. i had a 550w back in the day and it was a powerhouse. i still like antec. this is the first "quality" psu i have fried.

so i get my enermax liberty in today. i spend a good hour installing it and getting my cables managed real nice and clean. hook up the peripherals and press the power button. nothing.

that damn antec that i fried took the motherboard with it. now i have to endure intel's rma service, which i have never tried before. son of a biatch, this blows. looks like im running my backup rig at full power usage till that mobo gets rma'd. schools comin up, and i cant mess around, and i cant afford a new mobo with 945P chipset or better. just my luck....

Jesse,
I have a DFI-925x-T2. If it will work with your 820 shoot me a pm.

unfortunately, i think the 945p chipset or newer is required for dual core intel processors. i will double-check, though, just in case. i appreciate it either way, man :toast:

what does 'FTW' mean?

and yes, the liberty is a sweet psu. 12v1 and 12v2 both have 22A, so it'll last me a while
