No matter what I do I cant get em to work. Im pissed off! I tried the following:

Went to BIOS: enabled 8x8 PCI-E and so on.
Drivers: 81.95, 81.98, 81.94, 82.12 beta. NO HELP
BIOS: Flashed both cards with the same bios. NO HELP
Switched cards in the slots so the bottom card was in the upper slot and vice versa. NO HELP
Tried to clean SLI bridges. NO HELP
Tried to but the VGA cable to the upper DVI plug and the bottom. NO HELP
Booted with one card in. Uninstalled the drivers. Shut Down. But second card in and SLI bridge. Booted into windows. Installed drivers, enabled SLI. SAME ERROR.

seems like you sli bridge is out of spec, have you tried getting another one ? (call DFI or your shop)

The asus card might not be a reference board... Asus likes to change things it seems.

What does that mean?

that it may not work together with the club3D which uses the reference (standard nvidia design) pcb

Yeah, I am pretty sure you need to have the same board type in order for SLI to work. I know you are supposed to be able to use different brands of cards with the 8X.XX series and it just so happens that 99% of the "manufacturers" initially used re-labled nvidia reference boards, so the assumption that all 7800GTX 256mb cards should work together stemmed from this.

However, I have had zero experience with the DFI expert board... Maybe this is the culprit? ( one of the chips that does the auto switching for the PEG ports could be borked... I wonder if DFI even tests their boards in SLI mode before shipping...)

You should try to flash them to the same bios.

I doubt the ASUS board in this case is PHYSICALLY different from the other.

they are just the same reference board
flash them to the same bios and you are done
just as simple as that

:banana::banana::banana:.. soz havent read the thread carefully

is there anything relating to the mobo bios?

How about borrowing another 7800GTX from someone to try and pair it up with one of the two? Or trying on another mobo?

Try a clean install of Windows or reg. cleaners to get rid of ALL nvidia stuff before reinstalling the drivers.

The Asus video cards are NOT built based on Nvidia reference designs, even with the same bios IMO that is the problem.

Are you sure? I thought ALL GTX'es were the same.
