Examine the problem, figure out what resources are needed to accomplish it and then go and get them! Call your friends! They have a old P4 that's sitting idle while they use the newest,greatest PC that came for Christmas? Sell them on the good work it can do for humanity! Do they shy away from running the DC apps with the reasoning that it slows their PC's down? OK, sell them on running them at night or when at work. Three PC's running 8 hours a day equals one running 24/7.
I have a buddy, tried to sell him on this, got the excuse that" My machine runs TOO hot when I do that!" Grabbed 3 fans off my parts shelf, went to his house, no fans in the damn PC! Put 2 -80's in the front, one in the back and now we have a P4-2.4 working for us..Took me all of 15 mins and he paid me for the fans and thanked me for making his PC run so much cooler!
Lets face it, not all are as motivated as we, so it's our job to motivate them!
If each of the 80+ members found 5 people willing to turn on a PC for us the total results would be phenomenal!
Think about it! It CAN be done and just think of the look on the faces of the
400+ member DPC as "little" XS rolls by them AGAIN! Just that thought should be all the motivation we need!
If not that, the smell of the steaks, freshly sheared off of the still kicking COWS should do it!

The laptop is currently having cooling problems but I plan on ordering parts to solve that very very soon. I also am planning on building another P4 3.0 or more to run, and hope to get a few other people to run the project soon.

well my dads laptop screen just died, so i payed him 5 bucks and its sitting on a bookshelf crunching without a lid, runs really cool when thier are no covers on it. so add another 1.4 Ghz p4 no HT to the count. does like 80 a day haha

80 a day is 560 a week and 29,120 a year! That is exactly how we will win!
If 500 guys did that, we'd add 1,514,240 at the end of the year to the totals!
The farms may carry a huge part of the load, but it's the guy's with the single extra PC that will make the difference if we can get enough of them!:D

Used the monitor plug on back, uninstalled everything, instialled dimes and boinc, disconnected the monitor and set'er to work.

Those SSE2 optimisations like doubled the output also, with 512mem it should be able to be happy for along time. Anyone know if either of those programs have mem leaks? i wont be able to touch it but once a week as it will be at home and i dont know if i should even worry about it

Yes. Noticed "The Machine" seems to be looking to have a bigger impact in rosetta than the ol collective ever did in d2ol...though there were exceptions to that on some days :)

Hopefully the "strategy" department isn't lagging ;) Don't see as many surprises but the project is young :)

I am going to set another opteron rig up using a Foxconn 6150K8MA-8EKRS, GeForce 6150/MCP430 (PC3200 DDR), 2x256Mb Ram (dunno what brand yet), old hdd and cheap psu. Cheapest stuff I could find. Th Foxconn has a max vcore of 1.69V and cdimm of 2.85V + integrated Video, so power consumption should be minimized quite a bit compared to a full pc :)
I 'd like to get a 165 or bigger, but looks like I wont be able to affort one, so I guess I will end up with another 144.
My 1700+@2.3 aint doing any good using linux.. Only 1600 credits in 12 days :(

I am running the Linux client with the optimised files. Boinc manager says 5.2.13. I didn't compile it by myself, I used the client of the Rosetta homepage.
I only score 1200/2000, which is way too low if you ask me....
Think I will install Win2k on the 2gb partition and see what it gets there. I only get about 115 credits / day which is ridiciously low :(
Not really worth to run it 24/7 with that little output :/

Edit: And its running 24/7 with only icq and msn running in the background. BOINC uses about 98-99% cpu and only 1-2% for the os...
I am running Fedora Core 4.

Edit2: Its also running 512MB Ram (single stick), 200Mhz 2 3 3 8

Have you tried selecting no new work in the project sec. of the manager. IDK if it works but it might help.:)
