View Full Version : Venice 3500 overclocking, help pls!
Just built myself a new rig (see signature)
Got to overclocking it last night
I'm not that interested in overclocking my memory.. it is only cheap generic stuff... uses Samsung TCCC chips.
Reached these results: 235 x 11 = 2585 MHz @ 1.55v
I would be nice to reach 2.8GHz on my CPU.
Didn't really want to pump my voltage up that much, but couldn't get it stable otherwise. My temps are really high... and I'm worried about it. Gonna put another fan in my case.
I'm running about 41C idle and 59C load... this seems very high considering I've got an XP-120 HSF. I used the thermal paste supplied with the heatsink... was this a mistake? It probably doesn't help that the ambient temperature last night was about 27C.
Can anyone please give me some advice on my temps? or how to bring them down? Also how to futher increase my speed without burning up my CPU?
I also need an alternative to Abit EQ program for reading temps. It keep crashing... even at stock speed.
Will fanspeed work?
OK... just tested my system again.. and is now unstable at above frequencies.
Set my speeds back to stock... Still have a load temp of 51C... any advices on how to bring my temps down?

Have you checked the contact with your XP-120 and cpu? I've seen some CPU IHSes that are concave and dip inwards, having crappy contact with the HSF, try reapplying your thermal paste, those temps are way to high for that heatsink

Hi Kajy
You are the owner of Abit AN8 SLI.
and a Venice....
Try Abit Thread in "Official Manufacturer Information and Support".
Anyway....TCCC chips are not that bad...
Say you have a budget board and a poor overclocker....1.55 for 2585 Mhz...
Also, there is a known issue with Venice proco's and 1T memory parameter :)
My Venice on AN8 SLI board does 2750-2800 Mhz @ 2.6-2.65 (On Water)
Althought, i have an advice.....
Abit AN8 board won't accept all memory....
Try to decrease your mem latencies and set DRAM command rate to 2T parameter.....this should go well......
What's your BIOS version?
Try also to lower your multiplier to 5x andset DDR to DDR 200 then try out how high your board will support (HTT...Abit AN8 usually tops out @ 330 but some are @ 360-380 HTT)
Of course, you should buy some decent RAM, but try first to buy a good board.....
I bored with this board, but i must stay with it caus' she's all watercooled :(
Good Luck
Thanks Newbie user and MikalCarbine...
I don't think I need to put into words my reponse to the others... work it out for yourselves :)

hmmmmmmm.............. these chips aint that ocable :(
mine stops @ ~2700 and all 3500 i has saw are the same .
i don't think u'll reach the 2.8 but i hold fingers for you ,:toast:
about the temp ,yes their too high mine @ load reach the 43-45 and idle 28~30, and i got the zalman 7700. i'd suggest checking the thermal paste and hsf again.
Got myself some Silver thermal compound... gonna clean the thermal paste that came with my heatsink off and then re-apply the silver stuff and re-seat my heatsink.
Does anyone have advice on the cleaning of my CPU... am planning on using Isopropyl alcohol (as recommended) and some Q-tips.
As far as I understand... it does not matter if I get any alcohol on the pins of the CPU... or even if I submerge the entire CPU in Isopropyl Alcohol... as long as I let it dry properly first.
Fitting my XP-120 without moving it around is really hard!!! I hope I can do it nicely.
OK... guess submerging my CPU is not such a good idea... lucky i found out before I did it :)

Phase. I had a Venice 3000+ that was stable at 2.475 GHz on stock HSF, then it hit the wall. On phase, did 2.7 GHz easily at -9C while priming. QED.
Took my heatsink off, cleaned the CPU and heatsink... also removed my NB cooler, and cleaned the NB... gonna put some Silver thermal compound on both NB and CPU... and then see how it goes. Also got another 120mm fan for my case.
Wish me luck! I hope to get it all done tonight. If successful, will post temps in the morning... then the overclocking will commence this weekend.

My max for my 3500 venice was 2.86 GHz. Wasn't stable. but 2.84 GHz was the stable of the chip.

I have receive 3 days ago my 3500+Venice(My FX-57 is dead) and for now I'm here(only 512MB of ram because the other 512 is dead)
Don't look @ the SPI time because I'm in single channel: (ram not setted,no real time and OS day-use)
2904MHz SPI 1M with 1.648V-core...it's good? (Cold water)
