If you ask me, any aftermarket cooler that dumps inside the case is not the best design/performance. Still, this one looks better than the others.

I am always stoked to see how much the Zalman company is willing to try new things + Keep thier hardware as Quiet as possible.

It good be the angle the pics are taken from but it looks like their not that high as the VF700 series.. Which could be interesting for SLI/Crossfire setups..

5C @ same RPM / noise levels?

I think it will perform within 2-3c of the VF700 (higher or lower). It's main improvement is that it can offer VF700 performance at lower noise levels and at a lower profile (SLI).

Il put some pics tomorrow when i got a digital camera..hopefully. And the zalman IS ON GEFORCE 7800GTX now cus im too afraid to void the warranty atm. Propably on weekend when i got few beers having a party in my head ill fit it on XT.

But as i said the mounting is EXACTLY the same on x1800xt. You just need vf700 mountings and the 7000Al-Cu or Cu.

And i have a BTX case. The geforce looked like a  when i had it in the case :D Prolly have to make something to hold the radeon properly.

ive got a thermalright SP-94 on my X800gto right now... its about 20c colder then my VF-700... the card overclocked to 600mhz stays under 40c...

while i prefer modding my old heatsinks for videocard use (XP-90 will probably end up on next card) this is a great alternative and to me it would be my first choice. even if the eccelero performs a bit better, this is a better design imo.

Hey Sen!

And this is the man that I bought the SK7 off of that mounts to almost all Radeon cards from 9000 series and up.

Sry, Sen, but last time I used it was when I was testing out that bundle of GTO²s that I bought 2 months ago. :)

Have any of you guys tried drilling 2 holes and threading the heatsinks? You can then bolt down the heatsinks instead of ruining the fins... not to say that the sp94 doesn't look sexy on that card! :) I guess I should kept my old thermalright heatsinks...

You would most likely be able to do it, but you must realize that a big copper heatsink is REALLY heavy, and you can crack your PCB in doing so.

If you plan on being the first to try a bigger copper heatsink, you may want to create some sort of support for the PCB. One little crack and you will ruin many traces. =/

hey sume4, do you think a 7700 would fit on a gtx? got one here staring at me! :D

You´d propably have to remove the fan and cut A LOT off from the finns to fit it and get it to not interfere the mobo. I had to bend the already shortened fins because there is a high condensator on the DFI Expert, so basically the con is in the middle of the fins.

If you dont get the fan out from you 7700 it will not go in. Maybe get rid of the original fan and mount a high cfm 92 fan on it.

And yeah the card could be seriously bent if there would be no support.

What are the results after mounting the Zalman 7000?

The GTX went from 540/1360 vf700cu(with cold air) to 560/1390 7000Al-Cu (with warm air). I dont really remember the vf700cu temperatures but they were something like 47c idle W/vf700cu and with 7000Al-Cu 40c idle with AS5 that hasnt settled yet.

I didnt check the stress temperatures, but there should be a huge difference.

Btw macci mounted a 7000Cu before but i lost the pictures and he doesnt have those on his website anymore.

And the mounting holes in 7000series zalman match the holes in GTX and X1800XT.

mbm
01-13-2006, 10:31 AM
So there would be no problem at all mounting the Zalman7000 to a X1800XT? What is used on the back of the PCB for mounting the heaksink?

I would go with a square type cooler instead of the round one to not have to cut fins and also not have to worry about removing a fan.

Theres still plenty of cooling area when abuut 20% of the finns are shortened. And thats just the one piece from the "L" shape. The postivite thing with the 7000 series is that theres matching mounting holes that the cards have. You dont have to be a McGyver to mount the cooler.

Any new news about the zalman vf900cu? :fact:

Really... It just works just like that? Nothing extra whatsoever?

I wonder what this vf900 would go for the cheapest... no wonder why ewiz was selling at $27 shipped the other day for the 700 series.

No, you can use the whole 7000 cooler and can connect it to your card. the mounting holes from 7000 cooler will fit on x1800 and gt/gtx cards like some people said before.

Some results on x1800xt + 7000al-cu:

The temperatures went way low and the noise too. With the stock hsf my idle temperatures were about 55c with stock 2D clocks and stock voltages.

Now with 7000Al-Cu stresstemperatures with 690/800 and 1.5v on the core are about 54-55c max

The clocks didnt go that much higher from before cus i got quite a crappy clocker.. with 765/900 i broke 11k in 3dmark05.

The load speeds are the same as with 690/800 somewhere around 55-59c with 23c ambient. I use arctic silver 5 so maybe the temps get a little lower after some time.

I have zalman blue aluminium heatsinks on the mem glued with AS5.

The cooler looks A LOT better on the radeon than with the geforce. Unfortunately i dont have the camera here anymore. I should buy me one.

The temps are with the fan spinning @ full speed, but still its not as loud as the original hsf. I use it normally somewhere around 5volts and cant hear it through the case.

Ill be getting one tomorrow.
Just to make it clear: There are everything included in the package to mount it on the X1800XT? Still a little confused about the back of the gfx-card? Normally if mounting the CPU you will use the backplate that comes with the cooler. What are you using when mountinmg it to the X1800XT?

So i got the VF700 mountings on the x1800xt and you just have to apply some thermal paste and use the bolts that came with the vf700 and mount the 7000 on the card.

Prolly you can mount it also with just a couple of bolts and nuts. But some backplate would be nice with that also so the card doestn bend that much.
