Someone has SOMETHING in there sig that is loading Painfully slow!!!!!! I can't load curtain threads that the offender (Or possibly offenders) has posted in. I can browse other forums at XS just fine... but as soon as I get into R@H or D2OL I can't load half of the threads.
I can't figure out who has the item that isn't loading (Which causes the entire thread to stop loading) as I can't even look at the threads.
Please... check your sigs for broken image links, large files, or slow loading files.
I logged into my user CP and hit edit sig... When I did a preview everything loaded up fine and swiftly. Please do the same.
I want to browse the forums again :(

what browser are you using? Make sure it's firefox

Hmmm, I have a feeling it's this sig (lots use it--but all from the same link so lots have already cached it). It's biggish but you'd be the first to complain.
And the FF thing is something else ;)

 it's not my browser... I have loads of PCs and it's the same on all of them. I can't figure this out...
Browse the forums a little and tell me you don't get the same thing. It's getting frushtrating!!!!

No... it's loading great. This thread still works... when it stop working just note the last person to post and we will know who broke it! Then we can stone them! :D

LOL, k, good (triple intro response, w00t!).
Watch out....some might like to be stoned ;)
EDIT: can you link to two+ small-length threads that don't work? Maybe those of us who can load it can figure it out.

IDK why, but when I block your sig shmaa, those pages with your sig in it certainly loaded faster (like 2-3sec difference).
What's odd though is that the entire page DOES load (your sig included), but FF says it's not done for awhile.
I'm largely not having problems either though.
EDIT: when I say it loads faster....the entire page is perfectly visible immediately (I have very good b/w :D), but FF says it's still loading stuff for a good 10 seconds, depending on the content of the page (well, actually, only on whether or not shmaa and odb's sigs are in it).

to be fair though..
no image of that size (the machine ones)
should be 255 kb :P
could EASILY make those <50

could EASILY make those <50Impossible with the shadow and transparency (which doesn't even work with IE), m8.
There is a smaller version at 100kb and I could blur the stone a little for the png algorithm to compress that too but that takes away from it.
Go ahead, make a 50kb version though ;)
To be fair, this is a temporary version, there are some serious glitches with it (first person to find three distinct errors I'll give you a prize).

XS_Vip.png was the offending sig graphic for me.... ironic because it is a MOD's sig.
Vapor- If the average joe (that's me in this case) can't find what is so dreadfully wrong with your sig, then perhaps it is time to make it a bit smaller....just a thought

hmm, that image is only 258k..Maybe it's the time factor in loading at imageshack thats creating the issue..just my 2 cents..

ok...i take back my <50 kb statement...didn't take into account the transparency and shadow things :P
tbh...extra 200 kb for some silly shadow :stick:

Couldn't you make that sig a gif instead of a png? Add a grey background and it would get rid of the alpha channel overhead.

Vapor

Bit more to it than that ;)
Going to .gif loses the shadow smoothness (makes it one color) and is still ~110kb. A png is just an infinite color gif (with a few other optimizations for larger images).
Going down to 50kb requires using .jpg, which I won't do :D
EDIT (only this sentence): also, IE has a tendency to misrender the grey so the matting grey you put in won't jive (EDIT2: view my avatar in IE, there's a discrepancy between the defined color in the webpage and what IE actually shows).
Anyway, I'd be willing to pull down to the 100kb version (simple shrink) except most everybody has already cached the image AND no one has complained without instigation (and it isn't giving Rod any problems).
EDIT3: Apparently IE renders the light grey correctly, so a matting is possible....I could cut ~10kb or so by disabling transparency, I'll keep that in mind for round 2.

Indeed, but now if only the firefox developers could write some better code, without the memory leaks.

I can drop the other Machine sig to a lower size if need be, but again, I really doubt thats the problem.

I need to find them threads (It was actually only curtain pages that wouldn't finish loading AT ALL... I couldn't even display the reply or Quick reply buttons)
And yes you are right... the XS_VIP sig takes a VERY long time to load and it will sometimes hold up the works. In fact... all of the PS2pcGAMER sigs need to go as they are terribly out of date (I don't believe he ever got these going again if I'm not mistaken). They are gumming up the works.
If there was a problem with Vapors sig I would have had him change it. It loads quickly and is within the limits. Although it would be nice of you to make it much smaller in file size for the Dialup users amongst us. I think the one DeltZ made looks better IMO and it's MUCH smaller.
And if you wish I can UL it to my server for speed (same server the XS team page and all my sig stuff is stored on) But so far Image shack seems to be putting out quite nicely. *snickers*
I was having this problem at home this morning and at work later. Thanks for helping me hunt this down peeps! It would be a shame to slow down our new team forums.

BTW: Got 2 DX's running Rosetta now, 3600 and 2400..Had to pull the 2400 off of D2OL, saw the HUGE leads you guys already have in Rosetta!;)

You can bring them here! I have a 2200 sq ft split and the whole downstairs is mine for PC's,etc.
Dual 3600 and dual 700 on a KVM here beside my desk
Quad 700 and dual 2400 on the desk in the office 30 ft from me.
oh yea, and a APC Smart-UPS 3000, all 2200 watts and 200+lbs of it to keep it nice and happy!
A gift, I'd never spend the $1800.00 for it, but I did bring a dedicated 30 amp-110 line in for it!:D
P4GD1 in build on my workbench and app 13 more in various stages of assembly or stripped for parts...
and there's still room for your 11!:D
Time for you to think rackmount pal!

I'd like to see the room DD has all of his rigs in. he probably has a door hidden behind a bookshelf, has to tread down 3 stories to an old cavern under his house, to then scan his fingerprints in, to open up "The Vault", where he has millions of rigs in the room, he probably has more CPU power than some small countries
