the problem is mainly in the title. I have a 74.0gb raptor hooked up. BIOS detects it, startup screen detects it, but when i try and install windows it says that windows cant detect any hard drive. The hard drive spins, and I even once had windows installed on it before, its just that i deleted the partition with partition magic because i thought i was going RAID, but decided to sell my other raptor instead, and now I can't get windows install to detect any hdd (I've tried both of my raptors)
HELP?!

you gave windows a floppy with the sata drivers or are running emulated pata, right?

i gave windows a floppy with sata drivers a while ago. i have since detached the floppy, and what i thought was reset the CMOS. can anyone link me to the place on dfo-street where someone says how to properly reset the cmos? I don't have the option to hit f10 at startup to go into raid utility, so i thought raid was completely off my system

if you can't find the jumper then just pull the battery for a few minutes. also, you have to load the sata drivers everytime you install windows.

i didnt need to load the sata drivers the first time i installed windows on it... and i found the jumper, switched it to reset position, turned off psu, pulled power, put power back in, turned psu back on, and put jumper into on position

the only way you could install winodws without sata drivers the first time is if there was an option in your bios for pata emulation. if you can find it enable it and windows will detect the drive

well i'll give it a shot but i didn't need the disk the last time i installed windows, and i didnt change any settings. and that still doesnt explain why bios and startup screen recognizes the hdd and windows doesnt

how are the pins set. i found this on dfi-street
* If the drive is jumpered to be MASTER, the system will expect to find its slave and will keep looking until it does, or the IDE detection phase of POST times out.
* If the drive is jumpered to be SLAVE, the system will expect to find its master and will keep looking until it does, or the IDE detection phase of POST times out.
A master or slave setting without the counterpart being present usually appears as the system hanging or freezing. On detection timeout, the system usually tries to continue booting, often with the boot drive not being found either. Attempted warm reboots sometimes allow the system to boot, but with some risk of subsequent data corruption.
When the jumper is removed, the drive is set to run in single (stand-alone) mode. CS (cable select mode) generally works the same as single mode in this case.

first off its SATA, and second off, the jumper is on master. i'll try to boot it with no jumper, but why would have it worked before by itself and not now?
