Ugh. My system is such crap. Newcastle 3200 0418 CBASC that *used* to be able to do ~2.6 ghz on air and water. So, last night, I was encoding a bunch of movies. Since I usually run at stock speeds, I thought I'd OC a bit for a change and try and speed it up a bit, so, to be safe (and since the K8N Neo Platinum is a steaming POS) I only did 2375 mhz. This morning, I wake up, turn my monitor on, and am greeted by everyone's best friend: the BSOD.
OK, so this is a pretty lame thread, but I'm just ranting here. I can't wait until my chip degrades so much that its not even stable at stock clocks.
And yes, it is definitely the CPU; my ram is TCC5 that can run 250+ (my mobo craps out at 250 HTT) at 2.5-3-3-10-2T. 1T craps out around 225-230 HTT.
And yes, I was overvolting in hopes of getting stability at freakin 2375mhz. I loathe my newcastle.

I can feel your pain.

Sitting on a 3500+ New Castle that can barely manage 400MHz over stock clocks.

Looking at Opttys on eBay....so very tempting. Kinda hard to spend $400+ on an Optty when I can get a X2 for less.

I have a 3500+ 0419 CBASC that won't prime for more than 12 minutes @ 10x233, using DDR500......

I also have a POS mobo which might be my problem.

I don't think a chip should degrade at all considering you ran it stock all the time. Sounds like something else

Odd my 3000+ Newcastle is an 0416 date CBASC also, and it overclocks to 2750mhz 1.75v for its max and 24/7 speeds are 2600mhz using 1.6v. It hasnt degraded @ all. Must be something else. Maximum HTT speed is about 325 or 330 HTT

Try pricewatch, a 165 Opty duel core is $325, the x2 3800 with less cache is $290 not much of a price diff

I think your motherboard died, I've seen many of those s754 nForce 3 MSI board dieing !!

i also had a crappy Newcastle, CBAEC 0435VPDW.

~2.35GHz was the max and memory controller was limited to ~230MHz w/ 1T.

2T no problem upto 275MHz.

I don't know my 2800 newcastle seems to love volts but does 400mhz over stock if the non PCI locked Kt800 chipset will let it on that day.

It seems as though quite a few people had some fun with newcastles :D

As the previous posters, pointed out though, i believe that it is not the CPU giving you headaches...i too believe that it is probably your mb craping out.\
