First of all, I wan't to wish everyone a happy newyear, many years to go, a good health and much hardware to waste ;)
It's been a long time since I've been here! Damn :)
The situation:
I've upgraded from a K8upgrade-1689 and gf4ti4600 to this:
Msi k8n neo 3 and a gainward 6600GT.
The cpu: Sempron 3000+ E06
Memory: A 1Gb nanya pc3200 stick.
I can reach 237Mhz with ease.
4x htt, memory at the 166 Divider giving me 198Mhz and all voltages @ stock.
When I hit for 238Mhz I've got a cold boot problem. When I turn on my pc again, the screen stays blank. I have to switch the psu off and back on again.
When I do that, everything runs fine at that speed. hours of Q4, prime95, ...
But when I go for 239 or higher, I get zippo :(
even not when I lower my htt, memory speed, cpu multiplier, up the voltages.
I've also read about the K8N neo4 wich sometimes seem to suffer from the same oddness as my board.
is this an know nforce4 problem or some kind of biosbug?
image of the current result: (wich I don't get any mhz higher :( )

If anyone has an idea ... speak up ;)

OMG, take a look @ this:
Especially the email from msi tech support.

Msi has ruined the bios purposely
Anyone who want to compare the bios code from the older versions with the newer ones? That might be the key.

Sorry to hear ripper, it seems AMD doesn't want semprons ocing to be faster than A64s.

Seems something like that.
But one of those users is getting 255Mhz with the V1.0 Bios.
So I guess if someone with the needed knowledge can compere those bioses, he could very likely mod the newest bios :)
That would be sweet

Don't :banana::banana::banana:ing trust MSI bioses. I have a msi k8n neo, and when I flashed to v1.9 the whole mobo was :banana::banana::banana:ed up. When I booted I only could get a black screen. And after I got it from RMA, it's still bad because those retards who repaired it changed the bios to another v1.9 bios. Now it boots fine, but the memory controller is toatally out of control.
Lesson for today. Don't trust msi bios

hmm, that's pretty sucky.
My initial bios was V1.3, when I plugged in a usb mouse, the damn thing just froze, even @ post. I had to make a bootable cd with the latest bios on my laptop to resolve that issue. If I wouldn't had my laptop, ...
I've made a post on the biosmods page. I includes bios V1.0 wich allowed much higher oc's and the latest one + one from asus based on the same chipset. I hope that one of the bios guru's can find something interesting.

I hope I fixed it now. Flashed to the newest bios 2.1. And it seems stable, but it took some effort to fix it. On the old bios version I could only boot stable with the ram in a spesific order. And I couldn't boot with a single ram module... I will test this now with the new bios version.
Burn msi, burn!

Sorry for digging up this old thread. But i have a piece of info that might be useful for K8N neo3 users.
I just found out that, ALL bioses in MSI website does NOT have any PCI lock! Even the version1.0 there....because MSI edited it (even though the date is still old).
The only bios that really o/c so far is BIOS from version 1.0 mobo (yeah, bios that's coming with the mobo, not from website!). I found out that, there are 2 or 3 versions of this mobo. Mine is the latest and it sucks! I can't change Vcore and command rate timing even with the old bios.
But old bios has pci lock etc. My HTT so far is 307 with S64 2500+. A friend of mine, who discovered all these, getting 370HTT because he has the OLD version mobo.
There is a way to see which your version belongs to. I could be wrong but here is what i found out:
1) If your Neo3 has the button to reset CMOS, it belongs to old version which is better to o/c...
2) If it is using traditional jumper to reset CMOS, it's later version.
Hope this help!
