View Full Version : 3D Benchmethods under time-pressure?
Just curious as to how you guys bench 3D with extreme cooling?
Could you give a brief rundown on the different stuff you do.
The order and such?
I could imagine one would have to work fast under those conditions? You guys only clock one component between each run or do you take chance and up the CPU and GFX at the same time?
Please enlighten a poor-ass air bencher :D

I do know that many people bench/say that an order gives better scores, atleast on 3d01.
I would wager that since you are on air, assuming cpu and vid card both are, that if would be best to run single tests at a time. That gives your already stressed components (due to overclocking) a chance to cool down a bit before the next test is run. I have been able to get through runs that way versus running several tests at once (can cause me to hang/crash).
But I am no expert. Hopefully some of the heavy hitters will have some input.
Im not asking for order of runs, but rather a description of what goes on when benchin under extreme cooling.
Im just curious as to what the world of extreme benching holds :)

I test CPU alone, max that, then go xtreme cooling on the gfx card. Makes is easier to clock CPU without worrying about gfx causing instability and needing to throw dice in it's cooling unit and vise versa.

im interested in this too
im only air aswell, so wondering what its like to bench wiht ln2 etc

Lets put it this way:
When you run car low for the 10th time trying to get a good run and you're temps are moving around on both units due to a lack of ice and you need to dash down the stairs and out the front door to hammer up dice in a trash bag on the cement to dash back upstairs to load your units up and push it down so your 15th car low run doesn't crash it's intense ;)

Thread revival! :)
Anybody wanna share?

Install and tweak with STOCK cooling, then change to your extreme, make vmods, get max values and bench...
EDIT:
But, some cooling is cold enough that insulation aint that important, LN2, gives better temps, but.. - the sucker (mobo) gets all iced up anyhow... - The worry is NOT letting it melt, cause then you got a problem :\

Usually find a pretty safe max for CPU and GPU seperately.
Bench at those speeds, then work up from there... Add ice to water to push things a little further, but you only really get 2 or 3 runs before temps start to pull up again...
Just moving onto phase benching - GPU only atm thought. Temps arent awsome (-34 ish evap) but it does allow for longer bench sessions, so can run max clocks without breaks for cool downs for much longer.
