View Full Version : X1800XT installed...nice scores, but I have some questions...
3DMark05: 10534 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1664520
3DMark03: 19576 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4533498

GPU @ 720/832. I had to crank the voltage all the way up with ATI Tool on the GPU just to get 720 stable on the stock cooler.
So, I was wondering, what is it that you guys are doing to get 750+? I have plans to build a dedicated water cooling setup for it, i'm just curious. Also, I can't find the Overclocker program ANYWHERE. Could someone link it for me?
Thanks!

THANK YOU. I've been itching to find it, and I even searched the forums here!

I just broke 35k in 3DMark01!

I'm extremely happy with this card, and I can't wait to pick up a water-cooling setup for it. Not to mention a higher-clocking processor (like an Opteron 175, or maybe an FX60 with some savings).

very nice! What volts on your x1800 did you use to obatin those speeds on the card? Thanks.
A dangerous and extremely hot 1.575, on the stock cooler. I'm not gonna run that again, until I get better cooling

Nice scores but that is a lot of volts for "only" 725Mhz... Are you sure it wont do this (or more mhz) at less volt?

woah you sure you need that much voltage on stock cooler my X1800XT only needed 1.425-1.45v for 742mhz, 1.45-1.475v for 756mhz and 1.5v was at 776mhz (with air con assistance)
Yeah, i'm sure. It artifacts with anything less...either I got a crap core, or it's just too damn hot in the case. I wonder how much some AS5 will help...
I've only been using ATITool 0.25 beta 11 to overclock it...should I use Overclocker? It crashes my system whenever I try to use it.

ah could be a why ati tool beta 11 was crap for me max i could clock to was 762mhz on water regardless of gpu volt... any higher would lock up in games/3dmarks
change to my 5 step method http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=1865 and bam at 817mhz on gpu :D
Thanks for the link and how-to! I'll try it out tonight when it gets cooler outside.

Almost every time i oc'd the core too much comp just hangs, hardly any artifacts just hard lockup. Its mem ran too hard thats causing artifacts for me, at what volts do you have yours running @ 860?

Did you try the XT PE bios ??

I haven't tried that yet...actually, i'm afraid to...what if it doesn't work on this core, and my computer locks up before I can do anything, you know? I might give it a shot after i've got a few beers in me. :D

Actually, that is what happens to me as well. I'll see a couple artifacts, and then right before I can down-clock it, it locks up.
The RAM is at stock volts (2.097).
*EDIT*
Oh, also, every time I try to set clocks in Overclocker, it causes the GPU to shut off output to the screen. I mean, the screens just turn off. The computer itself doesn't seem to have locked up, just the picture shuts off. ATI2EVXX is disabled via ATITool beta 11...maybe this is why? I've tried it in both 2D and 3D clock modes.

The PE bios is just fine. I have not heard of a single card not taking it. IT automatically boosts voltage up to 1.48v under load and has seemed to have brought people higher clocks. Give it a try.
I get the same thing with the black screen and no video. system reset brings it all back. Perhaps vpu recover kicking in. I never tried to disable that and try again.
Flashed the PE BIOS in...works great. Couldn't get any higher clocks, though. :(
Oh well, I guess i'll have to just settle for water-cooled R520.

The core can clock at 738 now, with the RAM still at 860. Looks like it's burning in? I'm gonna put some AS5 on the cooler in a minute to see if it helps.

good job, let us know how it goes.
The AS5 definitely helped with the temps...at 1.45v for 700/800, ATITool artifact scan shows full-load temps of 61c on the core, and it's been running for about 5 minutes straight now, and the fan is only at 64%. Hits 50c @ 1.25v 600/700.
I haven't tried to OC it yet, since I have to get to sleep soon. I'll give it a shot tomorrow night. Plus, the AS5 needs to settle in a bit before going for some mad OC's.

Just a note about the PE BIOS. My computer would not even load the screen to prompt for the BIOS image without locking up. I downclocked to 500/500 and did not have any problems. Also I made sure to click "save" for the old BIOS.

yes for some downclocking the card seems to be the only way to get the utility to play nice. Luckily for me I did not have to downclock the card at all to get it working. I too saved my old bios just incase.

I think my card is burning in even more now! I just hit 747/900 and it benches flawlessly. I bumped my 3DMark01 score to 38390 for that! I also broke 11k in 3DMark05 (11043 to be exact).
I'm gonna set it up outside tonight to see what I can do, since it's gonna be damn cold.
