ok, whenever i run 'find max core' in atitool, once it gets to about 550, the computer shuts down, and sometimes, when i boot back up, the colors change from 'highest' to 'medium', kinda upsetting, any ideas?

hmm....I ws gonna say PSU, but the powerstream shouldn't have any problems at all with the X850XT.

Check your GPU voltage.

my ex club3d x850xt made 540mhz core max, and 600mhz memo max, yeah its very poor

where do i check my gpu voltage? bios? what should it be?

with amperimeter, in the forum of volt mod have the photos

Have a look at the X800/X850 Vmod tutorial at Techpowerup, it'll answer all your questions.

To give you an idea, my X850XT was 1.4v stock and on water would top out at around 640ish depending on the app. 1.6v took my max upto around 690 and 1.73 allows me to go over 720mhz. But bear in mind what cooling you are using, I would not go over 1.55v on aircooling.

try something other than ATi-Tool. Ive never had much luck with it myself.

The X850s were already pretty close to maxed out, they arent good overclockers.

Sorry dude, but thats complete crap, lots of them overclock like mad

It seems like the very latest batch of them are very poor overclockers at stock. I had two of them, and sadly the better of the two did only about 560/615. The inferior one did 565/585. I kept the better one, of course. I don't know how it did in between, but it benches at a maximum of 730/700 at -25C and 1.82v. Investing into volt-mods and cooling is quite worthwhile to these cards; they respond a lot better than my X800's did.

Quoted for truth, the biggest problem for poor clocking X8xx cards was low Gpu voltage (and a stock fan that wouldn't wind itself up unless the card was about to burst into flames).

Hi, same problem on me ;

I bought a new sapphire x850xt pci-e ,try some o/c, but the cards lockup only gpu at 540, I was very disappointed ,How can I reach gpu 570-580 or higher ?

Ok but I'm not a expert for vmod, I do only pencil mod, and Should I reach to 600 mhz core after the pencil mod ? how much is the pencil mod's voltage ?

depends how much you pencil it. Stock is about 1.4 v. On air, for 24/7 you really dont want to go above 1.5v. At 1.5x v I can do 636/636 (see sig)

I have penciled R1856 and give me 600 mhz core speed easily :))))

Hey Guys, it would be interesting to know what was the max corespeed before the vmod and then which volts and max core after..
i posted it already (sorr 4 that): here my results.. its a GTO2 R480core: maxxed out at 525/620..
measured the Vgpu with good Voltmeter: 1,4 Volts stock and interestingly under load (atitool artefact testing) drops to 1,37 V --> crashing @ 525Mhz.
Vmodded it with 20k Pot = 1,43V idle under windows, under load now 1,4 Volts. This is within the specs, now i can reach 535Mhz stable on this bad clocker.
tested 1,5 Volts under Air (silencer5 rev2) gives 565Mhz @63°.
I fully agree with above posts.. these cards are hungry for Volts lets fedd ´em .. its easy..

i went from 560 to 630 core after pencilmodding up the 1.6v, my card doesnt respond very well lol
