I am not sure why but it seems that all the top producers on the top teams are hidding their computers so nobody can see them.
when you select them from the stats page it says Computers : Hidden
I guess they do not want everybody to know how much firepower they have.
Just because they did it i also followed suite and my comps are now hidden.
The setting can be found in the Rosetta@home Preferences page under.
Should Rosetta@home show your computers on its web site? : NO
KB
I would think that most of the top producers are using corporate computers and don't want the "names" shown. ;)

The names are only shown if you are the owner of them...

or the IP address's as i have noticed Show Up..im sure we all know some people who can do some nasty things with IP Address... DDos attacking.. packeting.. anything..
I watched one person squeal with horror as the network names of the company computers he's running showed up for the world to see.
It may have been on another Boinc project, Simap maybe. ?

the nice thing about the ip is that it uses the computer reported ip, so that computers behind a NAT and DHCP server should be safe 192.168.2.7 is useless being that their are 10000 computers out their with that IP,

The name and IP address are only visible for your own computers. Just as you can't see the name and IP of anyone elses, they can't see yours.

My question is... do you lose the ability to view surtain kinds of stats by doing this??

Yes you do.
You dont have the possibilty to check ´stats of a single PC, which aint good at all if you have a subteam.
At least you cant see any pc stats on the official stats page. Dunno about other stats pages.

euh... no you don't. YOu just need to go to "your account" and view computers from there.
THat way you can still see the work your computers are putting out.
Only the public can't see it all

I know im far from a top producer but I hid mine after being accused of cheating by optimization of the client and im quite sure it came about by comparing my rigs output and specs to the similar ones of someone else's. I just didnt want to give anyone else the chance after that.
So far as checking the individual stats of machines, I just walk around and do that in house anyway.
:toast:
First post here, WOW. Forgot I registered that long ago
I'll be glad when they "fix" the benchmarking/points award system.
I'm running optimized on my Linux towers, but not on my Windows towers, for now.

Yep... now that I finally got this setup and did some exploring I can now answer my own question...
Q... do you lose the ability to view any specialized stats?
A... The PUBLIC will not be able to see your computer stats... However! If you hide your computers you can still login and view the computer stats.
:D

I've looked into this even more... there is no need to hide your computers... there is 0 sensitive information available to the public.
We can also keep track of your computers and tell you if you have a PC that is kicking out bad results... It can be helpful for troubleshooting.
I recommend that you don't hide your computers...
