Thank you very much. I feel very welcome already.

BTW, in case anyone is interested, I was first introduced to DC via a BBC program last February. Joined the BBC/CCE and cruched 24/7 for three months (daily backups,etc..). But in May when my third model started looping on itself and the backup failed to rescue it, I decided that I needed a change. CCE is a very difficult project and requires a 100% stable platform, and is definitly incompatible with 3D games (I have 3 kids who sometimes like to use my PC).

Anyway, to make a story short, started on Rosetta in May (solo). Visited many team sites. I was looking for a group of serious people who have their minds straight, don't waste their resources looking for ET, etc..., and who are civilised (Not many out there, I know - I looked quite hard). Was very impressed by this forum, however I felt that you guys are way beyond my league (I am an oldish engineer and no computer expert like you). So I was a bit reluctant.

But then I read about an incident that occured around early June that resulted in a wipe out (you know what) and I was extremely impressed by the honesty of the team members. That sealed my decision on the 11 of June, and I put in my humble PC in the service of this team to help it to recover.

Been cruching for XS since and regulary visiting the forum. The more I read, the more I am convinced I made the right choice. I waited a bit to accumulate some credit (I know, I am small fish) before introducing myself.

I am very honered to be part of your team.

Cheers,

PS: I never posted in a public forum before (except the BBC q&a boards). So if this post does not look pretty, please excuse my ignorance. Promise I will learn.
I have to say this! The first notion that we have to get out of your head is that we are civilized! Dear God In Heaven Man! Would you insult us so?;)
You said "oldish"..I'm 54, I think just one older than me in this group and to save his poor ego I won't mention his name but Ron is a nice guy! OOPS! I said it..Oh well..He lives 2000 miles from me so i am safe.
WE joke, we try to have some fun but we take this seriously.
You WILL see arguments, it is going to happen. We generally don't use anything heavier than words but on occasion..well, just duck behind something with some mass and you'll be safe.
No that I have finished camel turding( because you can't say Bull Sh*t) on this post, Welcome and have a good time with us!

Well I am very glad you decided to speak up!! The more you hang around here the more you will see that we like to have fun. This section is a little different then most the XS forums.... We just try to have fun everyday... As you will see there is no offtopic here:) I myself cant stay ontopic cuz I am having way to much fun poking fun at people or whatever. As gomeler said there are no small fish here everything counts down to my little lappy 1.5ghz dothan... So please feel welcome and post more often and you will get to know alot of us a little better. I talk to most of the guys here on IM and just have fun. Damn how many times did I say Just Have Fun Just Have Fun Just Have Fun Just Have Fun Just Have Fun Just Have Fun

Welcome to the madhouse, meshmesh!
I'm glad you spoke up. You'll mesh right in here. Good to have another teammate, :)

... I'm not so sure about how civilized we are though, you might have to retract that statement as you get to know us....

Nop. Just read your post to Mrs. FC. I stick by my opinion.

Cheers,

PS: Hello fellow Rambling Wreck. Went to Tech (I am a CE) for eight years (1xxx all the way to 9xxx). Had a house in Marietta off Piedmont Rd (I-575). That was a looong time ago (have relocated to London five years ago). I hear that Atlanta has grown a lot. GOd, I miss thios great place.

Do they still run Hydra? Do they still have the old clunker up on the first floor of the CE building (the one that we used to boot off the punch cards)?

woohooo I am plugging along, just found out, because I didn't bother to look before, but R@H sees my GF's laptop as having 2 CPU's, though when we looked at it, it said nothing about dual core........its almost 2 years old now.

so I have 4 CPU's going, and when i am done with my system that will make it 6. Then I still have a 148 that has yet to find a home.

meshmesh, welcome to the forum. I am new too and decided to join this team for many of the same reasons you did. I am also a fairly small fish, but am working on it. I really like that I can ask questions and everyone is so helpful with information. I am a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer but have lost touch with the EXTREME hardware that these guys use. I keep watching and maybe I'll learn something. See you around!

Hey all, not to brag (ok, maybe a little) but tomorrow I should make the Rosetta TOP 100 list. Currently 102. I'm so excited. Maybe I should start complaining about the unfair crunch3r I use. ROTFLMAO

Thanks for the welcome. I tried using the SSE2 Specialized files but I couldn't connect to BOINC so I repaired the orginal installation, any idea why it wouldn't let me? Any way to deal with the heat it produces? This is my families computer and it is a northwood so I usually run around 72 C on load. Nevermind, I toook off the sidepanel and am running a hurricane fan at it.

??WTF?? A 2.53 Northwood should not be that hot! Overclocked?

Untouched. It's a Gateway around 3 to 5 years old I think. It has run all the way up to 76 C I dare not let it go any higher so I ripped off the side and put a fan near it. Is this right?

Optimized files SSE2
3030 whetstone
8815 dhrystone

Non optimized
3014 whetstone
8773 dhrystone
