I have 42 processes right when i boot up windows. I have run many spyware and virus scans, so i know i have none of that. How do i get certain processes not to start up and what are some processes i can give the axe?

Click start/run/type ˝msconfig˝ without the quotes then hit enter /startup then just uncheck stuff u dont want to start with windows:) (if u dont know what process is what just google it )

is there some program that can scan your processes for you and tell you info for each one and whether or not its necessary and let you remove them from startup?

When u type MSCONFIG this window will pop up(see the pic)

then u click startup (nr1) first then u uncheck the stuff u dont want to come up when u load windows (see nr2 ).

use services.msc
but some people here will tell you disabling windows services is pointless and doesn't help.
i guesss if they are other random programs or something then go ahead but...yeah. services.msc

use "ctrl alt delete" and kill the ones you don't want.
