View Full Version : Hose Selection
Would 3/8" or 1/2" inner diameter tubings suitable for use on the water loop. The problem i have is the chilled water loop is 1/4" copper tubing so now i am looking for a suitable hose size to fit it. The situation now is that it is if i were to use 3/8" inner to fit the 1/4" copper tubing would there be any loss in efficiency or whatever.

Have you made a heat exchanger with 1/4" copper for the water side?. If so why not use much larger pipe so you can slide on 1/2" tubing for your water cooling.
The 1/4" tubing would present a high load for the pump. If you have already made the heatexchanger then perhaps use some 1/4"->1/2" expander join things.
It is done already. If i were to fit such a large hose to the 1/4 " pipe what kind of flow rates would i be getting as there is a sudden reduction at the inlet and a sudden increase at the outlet wouldnt it be unbalance. Or should i go with 3/8" tubings to reduce this balance.would it cause flowrate problems. I know i have a powerful pump. The eheim 1260.

Since you have a nice pump then I'd go with the 3/8"> Smaller tubing makes for a tidier case.

Wouldn't gain much with the 1/2" as it will still hit the restriction at the 1/4" tubing. That is the main restriction point. What water block / block's are you using? Like the storm with the 1/4" will put a heck of a strain on the loop.
