Thought you guys might like a little taste of what's to come from AMD. These run at 2.2Ghz (dual core, of course) and are rated at 55W TDP. Installed on them right now are Thermaltake Big Typhoon sinks. No results really yet as I am waiting on a couple of LVD active terminators to show up tomorrow to get the 8 drive U320 RAID up and running. ;)

Oh yeah, 1.15v stock :D

You wouldn't mind posting benches of what that 8 drive array (RAID0, 5, 6?) would you along with the drive and controller info. would you when its complete?

Those typhoons should keep those chips pretty frosty. I didn't realize they were rated for that low watts. 2 chips with 4 total cores and you are still pulling down less (watt wise) than a lot of single core single chip configs. Thats impressive.

Heh in reality these chips with 55W TDP probably eat around half of that. With big Typhoons they will be running 5-10 degrees above the ambient.

I hope you can test the overclock on cream of the crop AMD chips. Any word on 1xx HE? :)

OMG 4CPU @ 2605MHz at just 1.216V. That is a killer system. That will be excellent candidate for serious number crunching.
FCG,
I gues you are using clockgen, but do you have overclocking options in that Iwill MB BIOS? I'm planning to run similar system (Opty 280 x 2)on Linux, but will have to depend on BIOS for overclocking it. Alternatively, does anyone know any overclocking utility for LInux? Answers will be appreciated.

Well, this is really sweet stuff!

All Dual-Cores I ever had (X2 3800+ ... X2 4800+, Opteron 165 ... Opteron 180) only had 49°C and 35.0W. This one kicks them all with 69°C and 52.9W. Would be a hell of an overclocker on S939 system.

Anyway, very nice shoots that proove 90nm K8 Dual-Cores are able for much better voltage/clockspeeds than we are used to know.

Also keep in mind that if you voltmod it there is twice as much power increase as on a single-socket 939 board. The risk to blow up some power component is pretty high.

Modding should be easy because the voltage regulation ICs are fairly standard.

freecableguy

Tell him about your Killa-watt, FCG :D

total system power consumption:

idle: 380W (as measured at the wall)
FULL load (4xP95 running): 400W (just....wow...can you believe that?) - also measured at the wall

now, you can conceivably add another 10Wx8(=80W) for the 8 U320 SCSI drives when running at full seek/transfer as opposed to idling but that would be the very MOST this system would ever draw.

Now, 480W (maximum) x 70% power efficiency of a PCP&C 1kW PSU gets you a measily 336W give or take a couple watts. PSU is rated at 1000W continuous and 1100W peak. Don't forget that the Iwill board is also made for dual core Opterons in DP configurations. I think I'm pretty safe! :D
