I bought a used P4C800 motherboard from a member at XR and have been having a few problems with it since it arrived. This mobo is no longer under warrantee because it has been modified with a Vdroop mod and some insulation for sub zero temps so i cannnot RMA it i was just wondering if someone here could help me out.

Everytime i try to set my ram divider to 3:2 and reboot my computer will not post. It posts with a 1:1 divider but it just wont with the 3:2 divider or the 2:1 divider. I know it is not my ram that cannot do these speeds as i ran my ram at these speeds all the time with my old DFI mobo. I am running the latest bios from Asus's website (1019 i think).

Also i cannot get my SATA hard drive to work correctly. It is plugged in to the PSU and mainboard and SATA is turned on in the BIOS but it will not be detected in windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What controller are you using for your sata drive, promise or intel? If promise make sure its set in bios. Also 378 driver for promise controller. Intel chipset drivers? Also if you didn't know promise controllers are the ones closet to the bottom of mobo.

I think on this mobo the only SATA is run through the intel southbridge. Is there a driver i should be looking for to use with that?

p4c800 deluxe & the e model both have promise sata controllers afik. You have 4 sata ports? Intel chipset drivers.

I dont have the E or Deluxe models, mine is a vanilla P4C800. Ive got the Intel chipset drivers on there. I only have 2 SATA ports.

I am pretty sure there is an older bios that allows 3:2 divider. Can't remember which one though. I know the newer ones that supported the ct-479 had problems with that and it didnt post just as you described. I dont have any adapters atm to test it :(.

Ok the problem takes another odd twsit. Before this mobo would not boot into windows with any divider but last night i switched the cable from my sata drive from socket 1 to SATA socket 2 and now the drive works. So i think to myself alright cool fixed part of the problem. I decide to reboot and try to flash in the beta bios that i found on the asus website (1021.005). I go into dos try to flash it in, no go says BIN file cannot be opened. So i come back out go into the bios to make sure everything is ok and just for giggles i decide to set a 5:4 divider to see if it will boot. Well wouldnt you know it boots.

i could never use a divider on my old p4c800, it was a strange problem that i couldnt get around, after several bios flashes, i guess some are just fussy

the sata part is still odd, it should work in both positions, its either burnt or misconfigured in bios, whats the bios set to ? they have sata native and something else from what I recall

while the divider was prolly just acting up, sometimes my board wont boot after I change something in bios so I shut it down and at next boot it says oc failed, but I just go into bios, dont change anything and hit save and exit and its fine

D

P.S. btw thats a pressie ur running ? was the board cap/fet modded ?

Yes this a prescott im running and the only mod that was performed on this board was a vdroop mod. This board is still acting funny with the SATA even though its enabled in the bios.

hmmm, I thought these boards couldnt run pressies without the cap/fet mod, hows the vcore ?

what are the sata bios settings ? enhanced or legacy ?

The Vcore is rock stable and i dont even use one of the most popular PSUs i run an Antec 420w. The SATA bios settings are enhanced (I run win xp pro).
