I just bought (well I'm gonna get it once he's back from his holiday) a pelt from Hardcoreclocker

100 W with PSU..... the lot (can be found in the for sale section)

Now I wanna use it for my 9800XT

But I am a aircooler only person.

Can I use the pelt still, but solder a resistor in between in to be able to controll the temp? I just want the pelt to keep a few degrees above room temp so to avoid condensation but still clock fairly good.

I have a SP97 I can use to cool the beast down and some other coolers but I just want to know the best method to cool my XT with it.

So any advice is good advice

so fire away pls :)

First advice, read the stickies.

100watt TEC should work ok on a 9800xt.

Airooled TEC is no use.
I could give you a big explanation, but you may as well search my posts + aircooled TEC.

You "could" put a resistor between the pelt and PSU but it will need to be a real monster, and will get so hot its going to need its own heatsink+fan to stop it from catching fire!!
Not a good idea to try and drop the PSU voltage this way.

Best method to cool it is watercooling!!

You "might" be able to get slightly better temps with a high end aircooler and a 120mm delta fan, but not much better than aircooling and LOADS more trouble as you will have to custom make mountings and stuff.

Sorry to be so negative, but at best aircooled TEC a poor performer, and at worst its just plain dangerous!.
