Ok... I have a couple machines setup with the DSL/DIMES VMs and overall I like it... EXCEPT that after 24 to 36hrs I have to reset all the DIMES clients. I don't know what is causing it, but after that amount of time my free memory in DSL goes down from 12kb-16kb to 3kb-5kb. Once the DSL VM crosses the 4kb threshold, DIMES performance starts to suffer and you start swapping disk space(I assume because the hard drive will start to spin ALL the time).

Any ideas what is going on and what can be done? Resetting the DIMES clients in DSL isn't a one step thing and it takes a minute or two each reset. Which isn't bad for a few clients but once you cross over a certain point it gets to be a waste of time doing it one-by-one.

TIA. :toast:

Jeff, what version of VM are you running? I can hook you up with V5.0 which allows you to team. This way, one click youre up and running.

Im not all to hip to linux, so i have no idea what is going on with your clients. Kind of sucks though. I know the definition of time spent. Im still tweaking these damn things as i speak. Before i went down for the upgrade, i was doing nearly 200K a day. Ive got twice the VMs and im not even coming close to it. I hope you can get it resolved though.

Thanks for the suggestions. But for some reason it says that this DSL/DIMES VM is not compatible when you try to create teams. ;) (Figures... huh?)

I think I may have found a way around it... but it will take a few days to really test it out.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or doesn't anybody really use the DSL/DIMES VM? Just curious more than anything else if I'm doing something wrong of if it's a matter of DSL... or maybe even the Linux DIMES program? (doubt that, but you never know)

Are you using the ISO that Bloody made for us or did you do your own install of DSL?

Using the ISO.

Two other things from a Linux noob...

Is there a way to get DSL to automatically login? And, is there a way to change the IP preference from DHCP "Yes" to "No"?

Right now, I have to go in and change the DHCP to "No" everytime I boot one of the VMs... which isn't bad until you have to do that 50 or 60 times. ;)

TIA :toast:

[edit]
Forget about the DHCP question becaue I just decided to unplug my wireless router when I'm not using it. I enabled a range of addresses for DHCP to use now.

I think when u install DSL and it asks to install multi users, just type n, and the bootloader has to be lilo. I havent checked it, but I know lilo automatically chooses the OS instead of grub that comes up with the 4 different things.

I think I'm having around the same probs as you Jeff: does it start to use like 40% cpu power? It was making my dad's P3 very sluggish.

Yeah, CPU usage goes up. I think it's just swapping because it runs low on memory. What do you have your memory set to? I originally had mine set to 60, then 64, and now I'm trying 72. I'm wondering if there will be a point where it will stay working?

At any rate, if I could just get these VMs to NOT ask for a username and password then I could just have them restart every couple days. Hopefully I won't have to re-install all of them. :)
