I have bought this mainboard supplied from ASUS, its an 865 PE supporting Dual Core. I went to AGP as I don't wont to get rid of my video card yet. Installed everything and its working ok. But I have a slite prob which i cannot see how I can solve. The motherboard comes intalled with an onboard sound. I have an Audigy ZS2 that I am using instead of the onboard sound. The prob is that whenever I diable the onboard sound card, the system soes not boots, it halts on boot up, just after detecting the Hds. When this item is set to auto, the system boots as normal into windows. For a temp solution i have diabled the audio controller from Windows, but I would prefer to make it cleaner and disable from the bios.
Does any one met with a prob of this sort? The mian board is installed with the latest Bios.
Thanks

sin0822 Yes I have disabled the onboard sound from the bios. On disabling the system does not boot any more. It just display the drive info on boot up and thats all. Infact thats the prob.
freecableguy, When you mean update the DPMI table what do you mean? Is there a switch within the bios that I have to change as well? Pls help
Thanks

Yes thats what I have currently done. To me its a temp solution cause it would be much more better to disbale it from the bios. Thus other Asus mainboards behave the same? This is the first Asus mainboard that I had and as a whole its great.

Have you tried contacting Asus tech support. Really, I've done it with P5P800 mobo and they responded well to my help call.
I don't have the P5P800 SE, but the P5P800 is very similar. It says in my manual for this mobo about onboard sound
"
OnBoard AC'97 Audio [Auto]
[Auto] allows the BIOS to detect whether you are using any audio device. If and audio device is detected, the onboard audio controller is enabled; if no audio device is detected, the controller is disabled.
Configuration options: [Disabled] [Auto]"Make what you will of that, but If I was you, there are only 2 possibilites to try. Give both a go and see what hapens, if no luck - could be faulty Mobo. Contact Asus tech support.

Yes, I have contacted Asus and the answer was to try a different soundcard but i don't have any. I will remove the Audigy Zs2 and disable the onboard soundcard and see how it goes. If the prob persists then I will re escalte
Thanks

Have you tried the Audigy ZS2 in another computer. I hope they are not trying to pass the buck and blame the soundcard. :nono:

Infact thats what they told me! To try another soundcard. I will remove the soundcard, re disable the onboard sound card and try to boot up!
Infact I have replied to Asus that I have tested the audigy with another mainboard of another brand with an 865 Pe chipset and an AMI Bios (similar to the ASUS) and the pc loads normally into windows with the onboard sound disabled! Therefore its surely not the Audigy but a problem with the mainboard!!!! I have also told them tha from my part I have tried everything and that they should do some testing and try to replicate the problem!

no more reponse from ASUS, just update the bios and get rid of the Audigy!!! Not at all a good service. For customer support Soltek was much more better as they at least made there best to help and used to come with an answer!

gatt767, sorry to hear about your troubles. Personally, I always had mixed results with Creative Audigy stuff, I never really liked it no matter what motherboard I had it in. Look on the bright side, once installed, there software just messes with a lot of other stuff on you system !
I hear the X-Fi series is more refined and less trouble.
It sounds like the mobo you have does have issues with soundcards, I'll bet if you could get your hands on one of those new X-Fi series it could very well be a different story. You'd be suprised how funny little quirks in hardware can lead one down strange paths of discovery. Lucky for you though, P5P800 series are not expensive mobo. But still, its a loss....:(

I will disable the onboard sound from Windows XP. I will surely not buy a new motherboard, this is my third mainboard, first a Soltek, then an Albatron and now an Asus. I had to specifically order this mainboard from abroad from a Maltese supplier. I wanted this Asus mainboard as it supported dual core , all the latest single core and the facility to keep my trusty AGP X800 Pro card. Apart from this issue I am very pleased with the overall Asus quality. Example one of plusses is to be able to update the bios from windows, enable PAT on an 865Pe chipset. Also the CD recoverability is great. No need to open the case when wrong bios parameters are given, just insert the supplied CD.
As regards to price, compared to other main stream mainboard, the asus is not that cheap. I am speaking of roughly 80 Sterling.
I will upgrade to a PCIExpress when my graphic card is not worth its salt any more. Currently I am play both farCry, Doom 3 and Riddick with all the gizmos enabled with a 1600*1200 Res on a 19" monitor and its quite good.

By the way, my Audigy Zs2 worked with all mainboards, as it should with the onboard sound card disbabled all 865PE chipset and AMI bios (I love this chipset). This is the first mainboard to encounter this sort of problem.

Tryed playing an OpenGL game yet on that system ?
Watch the performance drop a bit... I notice it a bit on mine, so O/C graphics card comes into play...:D
