Modify a Swiftech mcw50 to peltier

Is it possibe to add a peltier into a regular mcw50, or does it have to start off as a mcw50-t. I have looked through the guide to upgrading the 80 watt peltier to a 172 watt, and plan to do this for a sapphire x1800xt.
