I have chance to pick up 3.4gHz Cedar Mill ES CPU... wonder if it will sit, jump, bark and do tricks?

You aint asking if it's worth it! You just get it if it's free! :P
So come on and pick it up and let us see some results!

It will be a LOT better than a 660 in terms of heat/power consumption and the favourite overclocking.
On good air cooling, Im betting you will be able to do 5ghz and when im right send it me ;) :D

im not sure about the "a LOT better" but its definately better than a 660.
30% less heat i think, plus they oc higher afaik, and they outperform 6xx cpus at the same clock... so id go for it if money isnt really the issue.

Well, pick it up then. I'd like to se some results :D

You who I'd ask about that? charlie.
New technology = FUN :D
I wonder if 65nm Intels have coldbug?

When I meant a lot better than the 660, I meant purely on what I listed,
The heat is a lot cooler, the power consumption is a lot less and they overclock a lot more.
Stock v's stock it gets beat but when they are both overclocked the cedar mill will be faster in every cooling department and push further on a triple stage cascade ;)

well the heat isnt THAT much lower from what i heard, but yeah, they clock nicely on air. 6xx series gets up to 130W stock, i think cedar mill is back to a reasonable 100W at stock :D a small jump for 90nm to 65nm comparing it to other process jumps, so thats why i said its not that much cooler.
a64 130nm 2.2ghz was around 60W afaik, 2.2ghz 90nm is how much? 35W?
but then again, cedar mill is a new design, slightly tweaked prescott, but its a new design... so a lower power consumption with higher icp and higher clockspeeds sounds really very nice!
itll still be a hot cpu, but since your probably thinking of dry ice again that should matter to you :D
8ghz might be doable ;) so get one id say...

Charlie definetly go for it !!!!
many ppl here would like to see it under DICE/Phase/LN2 since results from VictorWang are on air/water only.
make great OC on it and ppl would stay in line for it :D
Victor already made pretty good ad on it - Intel should chear those ppl :D

Intel does not have an AMD equivalent coldbug as far as I am aware.
I haven't had any problems with any Pentium 4 or Dothan.

i htkn itll work on a 955x board, some guy got a 955XE to work on the 955x chipset, so i think try P5WD2, bt wyour looking at around 4.5+ on air, well at least i can do 4.5+ on air on my 561.

there`s an article about it on anandtech (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2646). So I guess the only available mobo today supporting cedarmill/presler is ASUS P5WD2

Cedar mills will work on more or less 925 upwards, its just a shrunk 6 series prescott.
If it was the XE then it would have VT and HT which could cause problems but it will work fine in p5wd2.

Now you know charlie what you need :D The CPU, i955X and LN2 :P Don't forget to get some nice DDR2 rams also ;)

I know, but I wonder if there wont be cold issues with 65nm process?

Hey! What's wrong with a P5WD2-Premium?
In terms of overclocking, I doubt the 975X will make an impact compared to a 955X. Though we all want to see a P5WD2-E Premium (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=247059) in action.
If you don't want to try the Cedar Mill, send it to me, I'll test drive it. :hrhr:

I have a better idea let me test it in a classic old 865 chipset board for old time's sake!! It is a stellar OC'r

Ok that being said I have heard that those chips oc to 5000mhz on air. That was a ES but still....... So come on. test it already. too much talk and not enough satisfaction!!
