View Full Version : Wat motherboard & CPUto go for? LGA775 socket!

Ok guys I use to be Extreme! But as u might see my sig is getting low Extreme by every day now!:( So it's time to UPGARE: banana:
But now the question is what motherboard to go for? Yes I will be overclocking:) will try as hard as it will GO! Needs to have PCI-E, Needs to have an option for high voltage V-dimm... hopefully 3.0v+ um I don’t use sata only pata ATM...
Um and yeh a CPU something that would do around the 4GHz on AIR if possible:) For an affordable price but post what u think is my best option:) I would appreciate your help guys as I have been out of hardware business for a quite a while now:(

PS: Should i get DDR2 Ram or just stick with normal DDR?

Do you really have a reason to upgade? Your 2.4C should perform the same generally as 4GHz P4, especially with 294FSB(crazy OC btw,). I'd say go for a new videocard for more than anything

6800GS or X1600XT
1-2 Gigs of DDR2 utilizing the Micron fatty D9 ic's (runs 3-2-2-X)

This Asus P5WD2 board only allows 2.3v in memory? Is that plenty for ddr 2 Overclocking

Yeah most ddr2 wont utilize much more then that iirc especially if ur not puching it uber hard. Another option you have is to drop a dothan in your current rig and upgrade gfx. If you could also tell us full budget that would help a ton to.

a dothan is a mobile chip aka centrino that when used with an adapter works on s478 mobos.

As for lga 775 heres what i would go for.
P5WD2 Premium
Get a 9X0 series off ebay
gig of corsair 8000UL or 5400UL
7800GTX 512
Seagate HDD's

Someone on ebay a few days back had the new 9x0 series on ebay but appears he is sold out currently. I couldn't find any myself. Just ask around for them as people here have connections to get these new cpu's but at a price.

and what is your opinion about INTEL 955X MB is it good for overclocking.

For 955X the ASUS P5WD2 Premium is the king of overclocking.
