Thank's to Newegg.com for being ownage, thank's to Matt (AKA Gunsmoke) for the XP-90C and of course, the opteron. And thank's to XS and all it's members and staff for being the best forum on the net.

Oh yeah, and thank's CPU-Z Team, for the awesome software.

Nice Results, also very cool that you guys are soo young.

Also I was wondering if going to a 16 piped gto2 would be better than my x800xl, I guess not. Thanks for that.

Nice to see some other young'ns on the forum :p: (im 15). Not bad SS, i could only manage 3180 @ 1.66, on an XP-120 :toast:

you are....

...young :D

Not bad, maybe my opti could do better but never tested aircooling on my current 148er :) Think with some nice amb temps 3.25GHZ suicide possibly.

yes, all our mothers have smelled burning silicon, and she thought i was drinking the rubbing alcohol i used on the cpu, that was funny

Another great build Nick, and another Opty convert, great chip. The "ultra cooling" is fandango! :)

Lol. Thank's all. We had a TON of fun doing it. Expect more from us in the future :).

@ Overclocker, haha. :p

BTW: This was on a completely un-tweaked version of XP. The only 'service' disabled was security center. I realized afterwards that if we disabled all the visual goodies we could have busted 30k in 01, which really pissed me off. Oh well.

Matt now has the Chip in the best board he could afford, a Giga-Byte GA-K8U-939 w/a ULi Chipset. This board lacks a PCI/AGP lock, LOL :ROTF:, so the max he can get out of the chip on that is about 2.4GHz...so.

He plan's to buy the same board as me in the future, the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum..which as you can all see, kicks some serious ass :D.

Pair it with the DDR booster and :slobber:, if you have a need for voltage.

Anyway, thnx MSI for makin a kick butt overclocking board. I reccomend it to any enthusiest. The only thing it lacks is a high vCore. 1.69 I think is the highest it allows. If you set it higher, it goes back down, as a safety measure I'm guessing. A simple modified BIOS would fix this. It also lacks high vDimm, a lousy 2.85v max, but if you have Ballistix/TCCD it's more than enough. You can also get a DDR booster, so.

@ Perkam. Impressed? MSI Hater >< lol.

EDIT: If we had colder ambient temp's, we prolly could have passed 3.4ghz and broke the WR :(. Sad but true I guess.

Tell him to get a DFI and not the MSI PLEASE ><

1.69vcore and 2.85vdimm is LOW. Needs mods on both. You guys need a DFI board and some dry ice ;)

TMM
12-17-2005, 09:47 PM
Yeh but don't get an eXpert, lmfao. Unless your on DI, 1.69vcore is overkill, and 2.85 is fine for everything except UTT anyway :)

NickS
12-17-2005, 09:55 PM
Exactly @ TMM.

I've had a DFI afireinside. The Lanparty UT nForce 3 250GB. Wasn't too impressed with it overall. Sure it was a nice board but it lacked that rock solid, every day computing, stability.

Maybe I had a dud but I tried so many BIOS' on that thing, it was crazy. It was just never, 'stable.' Even at stock. :(

That CPU should be able to go 273x11.0 at only v1.500...

Everyone other one I have seen people have been able to do so and have it 100% Completely stable. I know mine is.

soon as im back home im gonna give my 0540 cabye a shot @ 3.3Ghz on air, does 3003 @ 1.525, can run a 3d bench at that, and i have an xp 120, and a panaflow, but i dont know, i dont think my current mobo will let my FSB go that high, but we shall see, DFI ultra d (or abit AN8 ultra) coming in soon

Well me and Perkam were discussing how well MSI was haha. Then I told him how I got my MSI Neo.

I bought this Neo4 Plat off of www.chiefvalue.com for $50 REFURBISHED, ONE DAY SALE a few month's ago.

& Matt paid around $230 for the chip on Newegg, retail.

To my knowledge WR on AIR is about 3.4GHz. On this mobo, prolly, since nobody uses it. :slapass:

I do! :toast:
I think it really kicks some, its very stable. With a GOOD bios this board is HUGE. Only cons I have are Vdimm only up to 2.85 V (dont have UTT, so doesnt really matter) and a strange thing around the sATA controller Ive got.:

I have a Hitachi sATA 2 hdd (see sig), sATA 2 ,when active, gives me some sh*t at windows boot, the hdd LED blinks a while and the drive is making strange sound, it happens on warm boot, dunno why ... :stick: Any ideas?

NickS
12-24-2005, 05:30 PM
Nope, soz man. I have an 80GB WD SATA and an 80GB Seagate SATA in RAID 0, both 80GB on nVRAID, and they're fast and don't give prob's. You're using the purple port's right?

And yea this board does kick ass, and the bios is great too. :)

I have ballistix like you too. Kick ass don't they. :D

Perfect for this board.

I know with every MSI Motherboard I ever had they died on me within 3 months or so and had to RMA them for a new one. I had a total of 2 different MSIs and I will never buy one again. DFI all the way! LoL

I built a system for a good friend of mine based on this board. I liked it alot. We weren't able to get it up as high as you folks, topping out at 250HTT, but I think that's cause of the crappy mem controller on the winchester he's got. It's good to know that results in excess of 3Ghz are possible on this board with Opties, grats folks!

Yeah, its a great combination, very nice for both games and benchin,
the Ballistix with -5B G's are very tight mems ( 250+ @2,5-2-2-5 2.8V ), like'em,
have to be perfectly cooled thou

This mobo goes rock-stable at high clocks and low volts even the a Winchester!

From my expieriences the best OC-stable BIOSes for this mobo are: 1.6 and 1.A,
the 1.9 wasnt that good for me, didnt test the new 1.B yet
TRY THEM! Maybe could give you better results! Have fun ... :toast:

i owe a msi myself, but still i think dfi is better
why?
with the right bios you get higher mem frequency
higher cpu frequency
=> better overclock => better results

:D Nice result on air....., i can do exactly this only on water:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=83795

But I can do the 273 1:1 at 2-2-2-5. You need better RAM guys........;)
