Hi

I am having a bear of a time unlocking this chip.

I have tried the same conductive paste that I've always used successfully on Pallys.....and then the infamous "wire trick". Suffice to say..neither has worked.

Any ideas?

FWIW....it is currently at 13 x 184 ...cant say if its stable..or if it can do more as I have to go to work. The cpu looks like it might do 2450 - 2500 with my water setup. Maybe...:D

Depending on your board, wouldnt you not need to unlock it?

I believe it uses an 8bit multiplier, and most KT400/nForce 2 boards unlock these processors

I've been told to connect the 5th L3 bridge to work with my rev 1.0 kx7-333... guess I'll find out in a few days...

edit - my thread (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7954) from page 2 here

Hi

Although its still unlocked, its currently at 2396 (13 x 184) @ 1.75vcore.

I got some fine copper wire today..so tomorrow I'll try again.

Perhaps this will give me a reason to get one of those new Abit Nforce2 boards due later this month.:D

Your board probably doesn't recognize the 5X multiplier your setting it to. Try closing both open L3s, to change your chip to a 1700+.

why mess with a wire? why not pencil trick it or use a conductive pen to just draw around and connect L3?

Ive heard sometimes the L3 trick doesnt work, but im not sure...

It seems the kt400's and the nforce2's will unlock them, but the kt333's need the pin mod to release the lower multi's 12.5x and below.

You can just connect the 5th L3 bridge.. use a conductive pen and you can just connect the pins going around the pit without having the fill the pit.. really easy.

The prob i'm having with the same chip as you and maotherboard v1.0 is that it wont overclock like my older 2100+ pal did. The old CPU could do up to 205FSB using the CPU decode speed of fast. But now with the new 2100+ Tbred B core it wont do anything over 183-185 with Fast CPU decode.. I have to set it to normal for it to post period.. With it set to normal i can go up to 193-194 Stable.. Thats it.. no more 200+ FSB. its really holding my overclock back cause i can only run the chip at 194x12.5=2438Mhz. Plus using the CPU decode command of Normal over Fast really kills the speed of the chip...not too much but it does make quite a bit of difference in benches.

So anyways.. ya to get it working with our v1.0 board ya gota connect the last L3 bridge.. i dont think it matters what bios ya use.. I've used the b6 and i'm using the 9K now..older one. The b6 will give ya more mults for the 2400+ and 2600+ but you will only get them if ya have a v1.1 board.

So the only option that i know of is to either RMA the board to Abit so they can change it into an revision 1.1 or just buy a new board.

I wish Abit would just tell us how to turn this thing into a v1.1 board and i'd do it myslef.

if that's the case, I will definitely RMA this board in hopes that it will then allow me to take it up to 200 fsb with a 12.5 multi. Did you try lowering the multi to like 11x200?? or 10x200? still a no go on the fast decode?

Yep ofcourse i tried that hehe. 10x200 fast decode or noarmal no post no power on or nothing.. Had to reset the bios and start over. I've even tried lower mult then that.. its stupid.

I posted abou tthis on overclockers.com's forums and only one guy responded with simular probs.. http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=158413

I might RMA it if i can take my volt mod off hehe. I mean i have another board that i'm gona try the chip in and if it works on there then i can stand to wait maybe 2-4 weeks for the RMA'ed board.. YIKES!

Though its gona be tough to not just buy an NForce2 board since i have 2 sticks of Corsair 512MB 3200.. They would work kick ass in that hehe. plus no screen tearing at 205 like this board did.

Did you cut the L12 bridge? To disable the 166FSB auto sensor?

lght1 didn't mention what board he was running, but if the board doesn't have a 5X multiplier, like the A7N8X, when you close the last L3 on the 2100 your going to run into problems.

EDIT
Scratch the L12 idea, the 2100 is a 266 bus part

Oh you will also have to unlock the CPU anyways to use any mult other then 13 to get the 200FSB your after.. The KX7333 wont unlock the chip like the KT400 or Nforce2 will. You could just unlock it and try it out and see if ya can run it at 200 either at fast or normal at 190+.. That way there will be 3 people i know total that can verify this problem.

that does really suck! and makes NO sense!! if your pal went that high why wont the tbrd "b" grrrr.

I just cruised over by newegg and seems like all kt400 boards have onboard sound and onboard LAN double grrrrr...

I just hope all goes well with mine and you got a "fluke" goin on over there on your side :p I will post back though in a few days once I know for sure....

Ya know i've read abou thtat and thought forsure it was my prob cause it is exactly the same deal but heh yeah its only 266 but i guess my board dont know that.

Hey now ya can grab up a Abit KD7-E board! No onboard anything.. i'd buy it up real quick if it had onboard raid.. :(

I think i will buy myself a 2100 Tbred B close the 5th l3 bridge like i did with my 2200 and i`ll see :P

you have kx7-333 rev 1.0 mobo too caspergt?

Hi

I had "success" with the wire trick. However, this KX7, rev.1.1, is not stable with this Tbred. I have tried all bios and it makes virtually no difference. With the 1600 AGOIA , it was rock solid at 9.5 x 198 @1.85vcore and fast decode. This combo, has errors with IE at anything above 1600mhz...vcore not withstanding...and with nothing over normal decode.

I ordered a 8RDA from NE lastnight. I expect it in before Thursday.

I really liked this KX7, but I would consider it only for Pally's.

Cheers.

No i got a kt3 ultra2 from msi but it has got the same chipset, doesnt it unlock all the mp`s below 12.5 ?
