I see a lot of setups with a small coil on the high-side before the condensor. I built my chiller without this, with only a few inches of pipe before entering the condensor. Should I use more pipe and/or this small coil business? Is there any general rule for balancing tubing lengths for highside/lowside?
Also, I'm looking at a DD setup but haven't come across braided flexible hoses. Is it ok to use a normal charging line hose? These are rated at 500PSI max working pressure. Or is this cutting is too close. I would probably also use a pressure cutout valve for safety.
Thanks
i have just done the same thing
the condencer coil is instead of a larger condencer so either will do
braided flexible hoses
you can get the braded sleaving from RS component and the iner part which is just a/c pipe laging form a a/c parts depo or plumers

I just set up a few 402a mods on Mach2's, and with the gas being pretty hot/higher pressure it needed the added cooling of a coil to work and condense properly. If you're using a gas that's not as hot, or your condensor is bigger/higher heat transfer capability then a coil is completely unnecessary other than to allow for vibration.
What gas are you using and how big is the condensor on your unit?
I wouldn't use charging line for the suction, I doubt that it would like the low temps and might crack over time.
Where in the world are you? If in the UK, BES does up to 600mm braided flexi that's pretty cheap. Have to braze up the ends, but if you buy male 1/2" reducers to 3/8" and silver braze it to the ends (what I did) then it works well.

The condensor is actually 2 small ones in parallel. They are about 200x24x25mm each.

I'm using R290 (Bernzomatic torch grade).
