Well let me start off by saying what happened. I was playing COD2 last time when it just froze up in the middle of the game, I suspect maybe I had the machine over clocked too high maybe the ram but im not sure. when I rebooted I got an error:
windows/system32/config/system is missing.

Ok so i figured the improper shutdown currupted some system file on HD. I used the XP pro cd to do a soft repair to the installation, but I couldn't get to the repair console every time it would freeze up, so I used a different drive and still no luck getting CD to load, so i reset cmos this fixed it and I did a soft repair to windows.

Now it takes FOREVER for windows to come up and for it to shut down, it will hang on the "starting windows" and shutting down windows screen. I figured HD has some bad errors on it so I tried to run CHKDSK /r but the computer just reboots every time before it can finish.

I know for a fact my ram is fine because I just changed it to a new pair after this, do you guys think the HD just has corrupted data on it still and thats what causing this problem, I tried to set the FSB to 220 and its too stable to boot?? i ran 270 before this 24/7 im really confused on whats going on. I would aprecieate any ideas, of if you need more info from me let me know, thanks guys.

Reinstall drivers or sp2 it will be back to normal if not just do a good ol reformat. I hate working from a repair.

Ok I was able to run chkdsk and it fixed nothing. Here is the main problem I have now, It takes about 3-4 minutes to boot, everything appears normal until it gets to that screen that says "windows is starting up" and it hangs their for ever, it also does this when I shut down I have no clue how to fix it. Im trying to avoid reformating I have 200gb of data to back up and no good media to place it on except cdrs.. :\

Also I forgot to mention after i rebooted from the chkdsk i got a blue screen that said the following : driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

Run active kill disk and start with a fresh HD:http://www.killdisk.com/
