I figured I'd make a post about this project here on XS, like a did with the DIMES project initially. This project is kind of similar to DIMES in that it deals with mapping the internet and it doesn't take up much CPU power so it works fairly well with other projects.

However instead of doing traceroutes (which uses very little bandwidth), this project downloads webpages and then uploads them. To be honest, I am not sure what it is doing exactly, but it uses a LOT of bandwidth. In 15 minutes, it has used 110MB of bandwidth so it adds up quite quickly. I know a lot of non-US users have bandwidth limits, so this project is definitely not for them. Also, Comcast sometimes gets upset when their users use a lot of bandwidth, so you have been warned. Of course you can configure what % of your bandwidth the project uses, so make sure you play around with that and find a setting so the project doesn't get in your way.

I am not sure if XS should join this project or not and I haven't really made up my own opinion of the project yet either. I just wanted to let you guys know it exists and I figured maybe a few people here might like it since there is such a strong devotion to dimes.

You can create your account in the client after you install it. You can join teams here (http://majestic12.kicks-ass.org/).

Note: you will need the .net framework, but if you have the bandwidth to run this project, the bandwidth to install .net is quite small.

Bok of course has created stats here:

In DIMES XS is an unstoppable force. #6 right now and will be #1 before April. M12 looks a little bit tougher, but after we are #1 in dimes, maybe I'll put it on a rig or 2.

Isn't there an aweful lot of network usage in M12 PCZ? Reading the forums over at FDC it kind of scared me off when you guys started doing this project. BTW, I'd be extremely torn as to which team to crunch for in M12... I like spreading the projects around to the places I like best so this would be a tough one...

Jeff

One majestic12 agent is like 10,000 dimes agents on steroids so it's not a project for the bandwidth challenged.
If you have download limits stay clear of this one.

Not sure what you mean about dumping a project ?
If you mean dumping another project to do this one then you don't have to it's one of them on the side projects like dimes or CB.
