I really want to buy the x-fi platinum, but i have a dfi-ultra d nf4. this review on newegg is making me think twice. Do you guys know of any one else having this problem??

"Pros: Well, from what I read, if this card works with you mobo, you will get excellent sound. The install package is better better than previous generations that put stuff all over your system. This is mu...
ch cleaner and actually useful.

Cons: Compatibility issues with nForce4 mobos (I have a ASUS A8N-SLI Premium). I get popping/static noises and crashes. These problems are documented all over the Creative forums. I'm sure a fix (firmwar... More ยป
e flash most likely) is on the way, but until then this card is useless to me.

Other Thoughts: I think I am going to hang on to this card until I see a fix put online ... it gets great reviews by people who have it working properly."

I have the X-Fi card and it works great in both my Ultra D and tmy new DFI Expert. I run a pretty full system with most bells and whistles (see sig), so I am not sure what causes some folks to have trouble. For me, the X-Fi sounds and works awesome.

you have some insane machines.. I am just going to get it. Do you think a nice pair of headphones and an x-fi are enough for great sound? I have a pair of hd-595s on the way and every where I have been reading saying you need a headphone amp to really take advantage of them, so I was going to get this X-fi for now, Im just not sure if I would be missing out still with out a headphone amp

I'd try just the headphones first and see if you like it. That's all I run. No amp needed for me. You can always add an amp later if you need to.

I have an X fi sound card, and it has a annoying habit of shutting the sound off completly everytime I reboot.

to fix this, I have to constantly open the creative control panel, and reset it to default...

its not a big deal, but it is annoying when a card this expensive doesn't work right, cause of a bug in the driver or something...

Yeah I'm using some Sennheiser HD212's on mine (pretty cheap headphones like 50 bucks) and it sounds AWESOME!

Im currently using x-fi music on an a8n premium, 0 problems here EXCEPT - the auto updated for Asus does NOT want to install itself on a system with an x-fi of any kind. Both sides are aware of the problem. Also, you need to completly uninstall your old driver/hardware before anything or eles games go bonkers.
