Its really not hard to build a non switching PSU such as this but its ineffiecent so I think a better question is has anyone tried to build a switching PSU for pelts?

I dont think ive ever seen anybody post a design for one.
Although im sure people have made there own switching supplies.

I think switching PSUs are just using the same methode at a higher frequency with that 3 pin thing, then all you need is a small step down transformer rather than a big one.
I'm sure it's possible, but it'll take quite some work to make one.

kinda sorta in the process of working on it... IIRC, 30 or 40 amps at 13.8v (variable voltage, to an extent as well). we'll see if we (myself and a friend) ever get anywhere on them though.

NICE! Care to PM me a diagram? I want to build a 40amp 12v supply ATM, with mosfets and a transformer.

im also interested in making a 12v (13.8v;) ) i have the componets of a dead 250w, old at 150w, and a monitor with some huge caps and tons of little VR's.

the schematics/part list are a PITA; over 80 seperate components including oodles of capacitors in the way small range (ie nanoFerads and smaller) and self-wound transformers. but if you think you can manage it... (http://ludens.cl/Electron/PS40/PS40.html)

that's one hell of a project, the guy has actually wind his own coil. And you cant use thin wire coil either, you need the stacked metal sheet one, just like the one he made.
