Ok. No matter what i tried with the Gigabyte board, it wouldnt work with 4 gigs of ram. I manipulated ram timings, speeds, etc.. To no avail, would it work.

I tried multi OS's, no worko.. So i got so pissed off, i turned off the two machines i was working on for about 2 days.

So i sat and pondered the most effective way to do this. I came up with this...

3 Machines

Dimes Team A
Dimes Team B
Dimes Team C

Each box has 2 gigs of ram. Each box has a stripped Win2k install and win2k clients. Ive been able to fit 40 vms per machine, giving me a grand total of 120. I think it works out better this way. Anyhow, 1 Machine is up. Its a total pain in the ass moving Vms around, creating new VMs and assigning teams.

So, over the next few days, my stats should climb through the roof... making us the #1 producer again.

Next im going to try Bloody's Linux install on a box and see what happens.

I think somewhere you have to enable something in the bios:

Thats what eva did. Try sending gigabyte an email.

I sent them an email and they havent replied. I doubt the problem will be fixed by than. Im waiting for the ultra d to drop back down to $105 and pick one up. I may just get an infinity to hold me over.

Just go back into bios and try searching again. Does it post?

Trust me, ive been through this BIOS back and fourth.. There is no options to enable addtional memory... Infact, the phuckin thing cant even read 3 gigs properly.. I sent Gigabyte a nasty email and i told them, either refund my money or send me a 939 board that can read 4 gigs of ram properly.

Does the motherboard recognize the 4gigs, or is it windows. What board is it?

Did you do the ctrl + F1 in the BIOS that all gigabyte boards love to have pressed. That opens up the hidden BIOS options. Most of the memory settings are in there.

I have to giggle about this... I remember pulling my hair out for hours the first time I learned about "ctrl + F1".

I remember the 1st time with ctrl F1 as well as it took ages to recover when I "overtweaked"....lol. Im not sure on this dual Bios lark, but I suppose it nearly always comes back.

Thanks a lot, it actually worked. LMFAO.

Having some technical issues with Windows Crashing running 80 Vms.. Im working on break it down right now.. This whole 4 gig project hasnt been successful for me. Im about to break down and go with two 2 gig machines.

Haltech

Ok, there going up one by one. it seems the whole teaming thing is a sham when you go with large numbers. Lets see what happens now. One is going up about every 3 minutes.

LOL. to funny. The 3 gig machine just crashed at 19 VMs loaded. Unbelievable!

Got any links. I dont have time to search these boards for it. Im sure theres some kind of switch during boot up?

No, theres a switch you throw up into the boot ini. I found it here..

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx

I tried it, lets see what happens. Were on #10 loading right now.

I remember andyocz or bigtor posting that somewhere. Hopefully that will help. Is the ram OCed. Try 3-3-3-8 timings (since its dedicated)?

Its not overclocked. Timings are at 3,3,3. Its going up.. slowly but surely.

from the looks of it, this line from the M$ link...

"The /3GB switch allocates 3 GB of virtual address space to an application that uses IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE in the process header. This switch allows applications to address 1 GB of additional virtual address space above 2 GB."

is saying that the app has to use that in order to address the 3 of the 4 gigs. So it might be VMWare at fault (Though I would have though a product like VMWare would address whatever it can get)

EDIT:
This line
"Executables that can use the 3-GB address space are required to have the bit IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE set in their image header. If you are the developer of the executable, you can specify a linker flag (/LARGEADDRESSAWARE)."
Appears to support that. Feel free to riddle that theory with holes...

I have to add a new hard drive to get them all up.. As you can see, numbers are going up each day. We should be cranking out 350K+ a day shortly, if not more.

XS is back at the #1 spot once again, next stop crunchers inc ;)

Cant for get that dragonotra has been a tad lower than usualy and I think thewildblue may still be moving (not sure though). By the time we are all back together, I'm saying 400k+ days will not be surprising.

Highland3r
12-23-2005, 08:39 AM
400k? We could get up to 700 easy, Helheim + haltech = ~ 500k, Jeff's on ~ 70k, dragonorta ~ the same.. Myself and Insancen are on 40k a day....

Down to 1gb ram only in the dimes machine for a bit, as the UTT's needed elsewhere :( Upgrade to a 730m for a week though, so should cope a little better....

[XC] moddolicous
12-23-2005, 09:31 AM
Ooh, I thought Haltech meant 350k as a TEAM, not by himself. If he means 350k by himself, then yea, 700k should be aceivable

Hopefully addding another box over the festive period (Assuming the 40GB cap will take it, and I'm sober enough!). Hope to do that as a 512MB, XP2000. Also taking the current DIMES rig to 1GB (Currently 512MB, running 9 Agents), hope to addd another 8 for 17 or so total. Needless to say, it runs like a dog with one leg for anything but DIMES). Will also be building a D2OL box which will have a single agent. should be 18K+ on top.

Haltech
12-23-2005, 03:06 PM
Its good to be back. To give you an idea of where im at with this one box.. 30 Vm's are running and only 886 megs of ram is being used. It has 3 gigs of ram. I ran out of hard drive space, so im off to go get a large drive right now. If i can max her out, 350K by myself should be easy. If this one turns out to be a good working box after all the :banana::banana::banana: ive been through, ill throw up #2.. I want a million a day. This way, in 3 months time, were #1 period. Than we can move onto something else. lol

If we did 1mil daily, that would be completely animal.

Haltech
12-23-2005, 06:13 PM
Got a new drive. putting the machine back online and adding clients as we speak. I guess when i get up in the morning tomorrow, ill know if its good or bad. lol.

300 gig drive, $99 after rebate. Could of been a better deal out there but this is ok for now.

Haltech

Once I get my main computer computer connected to the internet, We should have 4 in the top ten, as long as my ISP (Comcast) doesn't decide they don't like me (which I've heard happens with Comcast).

Nice work guys 1 mill a day would be awsome, XS would be unstoppable!:D Need to get some VM's setup on the PC at my parents, have an extra 256mb ram which should help things...

[XC] DragonOrta
12-24-2005, 10:16 PM
OK, I've got my main computer hooked up to the internet and fit a few more VMs onto it, so I should be able to stay in the top ten today. It's nice having four people in the top ten. BTW Jeff, Nice numbers yesterday. I guess I'll have to go and get some 1gb sticks to get my 5th place spot back. :D:

[XC] DragonOrta
12-27-2005, 09:26 PM
I think I'm going to have to put DIMES on hold for a few days. All of these VMs are keeping Dockwin.exe around 60-70% of CPU, but I'll be back pretty soon. I can't take not seeing us crushing the competition in DIMES for very long.

[XC] moddolicous
12-28-2005, 09:24 AM
Yea, same here for a while.

Jeff
12-28-2005, 09:26 AM
Yeah, that's what I'm finding too. With 20-22 VMs running, it's taking about 30% away from my other project. BUT, I'm not minding it right now so I'll continue on until either my ISP says something or until I need the extra boost in the other project. ;)

So... who's going to step it up? We need 1,000,000 a day!!! :D
