1st - Money, don't have any.
2nd - New sockets, I don't care if I can't game at 2048X1536 or run Super Pi in 5 seconds. My computer is just fine for now.

I am in for a huge upgrade, triggered by the Opteron madness. I got one well-clocking 175 and two good single-cores. Right now they are only sitting in test boxes, along with other 939 gear.

But I'll kick the P4C800-E deluxe with 2.8 GHz P4 out of my server and build a 939 X2 based server.

My gaming rig right now is a socket 754 at 2.6 GHz prime stable and a 6800 AGP. Out it goes, I use one of the single-core Opterons and get a PCIe card.

FreeBSD development will get a dedicated machine with the Opteron 175.

The great thing about this is that it will be cheap. The i875 board brings great money from Pentium-M overclockers or from Linux/FreeBSD people who want the CSA GbE. The 2.6 GHz 754 combo will sell well, too, with the prime95 shots.

Final upgrade motivation: I can sell the 6800 Ultra to somebody stuck with AGP for almost the same price that I have to pay for a new 7800GT.

I will also get rid of all that dual Pentium-III stuff that I have, the AMD dual-cores are just, uh, better.

Anything new that's worthwhile. I already have a GTX SLI setup, a R134a rig, 2GB of BH5, and a 939 SD.

Games that actually stress the crap out of the hardware I have already, and that are actually worth while to play not a gimmic tech demo game.

Soo...like F.E.A.R., CoD2, and Q4? I'd imagine those games would put more than enough strain on your system at max. settings, highest AF/AA, and 16x12. In fact I think they might be mostly unplayable. ;)

As for me, I'm waiting on money. Being a poor college student can be fun, as long as you don't ever need to buy anything.

I`m actually pretty fine with my curent rig - but i`d like to change VGA to 7800GT or X1800XL. But I think I`ll wait till R580/G80 will come to market to take something more powerfull off the hands o` crazy OCer who sells recent high-end for cheap to buy new one :D . And I NEED good air cooler for CPU - this crappy cheap one I have is driving me nuts when I decide to OC my 146 Opty :hitself:

Money.

M2 sounds nice and everything, but it will be cheaper to put a better 939 in the system I already have.
