View Full Version : Scores goes down at higher fsb?!

Hey everybody, I am new here and need some help. I have been overclocking for several years but nothing extreme until now. I know higher fsb speed means more bandwidth which means higher scores but for some reason that isn't happening for me. The parts that are mentioned in my sig must not work well together. When I run the 2100+ @ 10X166 it runs slower than when I run it at 12.5X133. The strangest thing is that I have to give the ram 2.8v to be stable when I run it at 166 synchronously to the cpu, but when I run it at 166 asynchronously it doesn't need any voltage increase. Is this strange or what? Any ideas? (I know the mobo isn't the best choice for this but its what I have for now)

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to Xtreme:D Well, first off when you're running at 10x166, you're making everything faster, but the processor doesn't actually calculate faster. When running at 12.5x133, you're in effect running the processor faster than the rest of the components. If you're getting better scores (which btw what scores?) that's because another component is holding you back. What are your temps either way? And have you tried raising your fsb with the 12.5 multi? Or gone any higher at the 10 multi w/ the fsb? I'll have to leave your ram question to someone a little better than me though;)

Hey thanks for the welcome.:D

My scores were something like 10628 with the cpu at 12.5X133 and 10526 at 10X166. The same proc speed, just more bandwitdh. My temps are a real issue. In the bios is says 25 C but SiSoft Sandra tells me 36 C (don't know which to believe) while burning in. I could only get the fsb up to 12.5X150 before everything went to crap. Had to reinstall after that for some reason. Thanks for your help.

Maybe try the 12x150 again, but raise your vcore a small notch or two. It would probably help if when using 10x166 to change your ram and agp settings to a little more relaxed. At 166, you probalby want to go to 1:1 asynchronous setting with the ram. I'm not exactly a guru at vid and ram settings, so don't take my advice to heart. See what a couple of others around here think too. You might also wanna look into purchasing Ghost (http://download.com.com/3000-2085-10169017.html?tag=lst-0-1), That should help you from having to do a format and reinstall every time you corrupt your hdd. :D

Thanks Tweaked,

I will give it try later. I have to put my water cooler back together first. The palomino puts out a lot of heat and the old valcanoe 6cu doesn't quite cut it. :D

w00t!?!
do you run 166mhz fsb on a Gigabyte Ga-7vrxp?
I havn't seen anyone do that. Everyone else can run like 165 or at the most, beqause the gigabyte don't support 333fsb. I even got a mail from Gigabyte that told me this. So how the f**k can you do this? :D

cheers m8 :rocker:

I can get it to run there fine at 166. You have to slowly step up to it though, otherwise the bios will refuse to boot. The funny thing is that when I turn off the pc, it boots back up at 133. That only happens when I actually turn it off, not when I reset it. The ti4200 probably doesn't like the high agp speed but it doesn't seem to complain too much. ;)

You can Delete any message you submit by going into edit, up top there is a delete checkbox( left side)... and to the right of that is where you do so.
