Once some results are gathered this thread will be linked on other forums to help me and other people interested in musical production make a better choice on which system to go with based on different factors which mainly are software, performance, and price.

---Does anybody know what sound processor is in an Apple G5??? I'm using an Audigy 2ZS. Not exactly studio material. Will this make a difference??? I thinkit will.

---What Audio programs run on Linux and how will this affect performance???

Please contribute if you can to this disscussion. I'm interested in actually getting my rig up to par for audio editing in reason and in other programs. This isn't just a which is better disscussion to hear our self clown the other set up. Lets keep it clean an objective.

your ZS2 indeed isn't studio material and the apple WILL beat you at stock I reckon.

hell I even think it'll beat your venice no matter what. why? its a DUAL CPU system, it has about the same power per processor that you have (maybe a bit less and macs are BUILTH for workstations. Your setup is builth by and for a gamer I reckon. So unless you can get uberhigh clocks with supertight timings...

I don't think your rig stands a chance.

Now having an optimized OS, that is sleek, "clean" (defragged etc...) and overall good (which mac OS IS, it's a fact, mac os > Windows )

So if you wanna get on par, you better have a clean rig, good timings, nice clocks and turn graphical :bs: etc off when your running the tests. be sure you have enough RAM free if the projects are big, you have good codecs (not Beta ones if there is such a thing for audio)

I think you can stand a change then. At stock, never

Apple core audio development is the best yet Apple has poor audio hardware onboard and it is common to upgrade for quality audio playback.

Recording from two sources is also a problem as the G5 still uses AC97 standard.

I'm confused could you clarify fugger. Does Apple use AC97. Also the comparison I'd like to make is only for software that runs on PC and Apple. Once I get time I'll start benchmarking with and with out onboard audio. To see what effect it has.

Funny story. The whole reason I got into overclocking and building PCs was when reason told me my HP was to slow. It had a willamete P4. So I read up aNd got help from a freind and eventually bought an abit mobo and overclocked the P4. After that I was hooked. Three mean rigs later...

The willamete doesn't count

Yes, the newest Apple still uses the AC97 audio. I confirmed

Once we can get some numbers up and real life benchmarks we can link to this thread so people interested in musical production can make a better choice on their system purchase whether it be Apple or PC.
