I dont put one on my comptuer as most of them have gotten so heavy I would rather deal with the virus's.

I use either Kapernsky or Trendmicro's online scanners, they do a great job.

Check out this for a good read on virus software:

I like Avast. Planning on trying out Kapersky soon though. Have used AVG in the past, and some online scanners. Sometimes theyd find a virus, but weren't able to get rid of it. I'm not a big Norton or McAfee fan myself.

Do not use Kaspersky.

its junk.

i installed a file from a bad website that infected over 200 windows files. kaspersky deleted only 90% of the infection, and i thought my system was clean. when in fact the 10% that didnt clean was spamming my isp with emails and such. i was contacted by my isp 3 times for the viruses and i kept running kaspershy and finding 1 virus every time i scanned. after the 3rd warning from my isp (basically i had 2 days to clean before they blocked my system) i went to Norton corp v10 and guess what? i found around 20 infections that kaspersky did not find or clean. i even ran kaspershy after norton and it said my system was clean.

So that software cleans viruses, but doesnt clean them all. Norton does bog your system down a bit while it runs, but a dual core system will run perfect.

So if you care about 5% or less of your systems resources, then i would run norton. i have not tryed any other AV since. but i now have no more viruses and my isp likes me again.

Kaspersky loves to hog the memory alot while running realtime- enabled... i used kaspersky when i had single core and i just couldn't stand the delays it put on the system.

I mainly used Kaspersky, but it ran deactivated and I only used it on demand - to scan specific files or test various creations. Norton is too easy to bypass, a joke, and most virus and trojan writers knows that.
I also heard good stuff about AVG, Norman and occasionally Mcafee.

actually thats exactly why i use nod32. its very 'light', doesn't slow down your system. give it a shot.

Avast!. I used to use Norton until I ran Avast! and it found 10+ signatures that Norton overlooked. Like most AV/spyware programs 1 isn't enough so sometimes I visit Panda's Activescan and Trendmicro's Housecall sites and run a scan.

I personally use McAfee. Never had any issues with it. It's caught and completely removed quite a few different trojans before they were ever installed. so the real-time scanning works very well at least.

I've also recently become a big fan of Trend Micro's PC-Cillin AV. it hides in the background very well, even with real-time scanning enabled. I still use McAfee, but I've installed PC-Cillin ina couple of fridns computers, and it works very well for them.

EDIt: just wanted to note that I've never trusted free antivirus software. I've played with AVG and Avast a bit, and they jsut didnt seem real thorough. I generally don't pay for the use of the software I have, but I am willing to shell out for a good virus scan.

by the way guys, use them all if you have a serious infection. at my work we do "operating system services" when people have viruses, and all that consist of is running 10 scans in safe mode until nothing is left, or manually removing whats left.
