Well, I had a chance to put these two chips up on my new chilly1 single stage cooler, and here's what I came up with

First of all, the platform

DFI SLI-DR Expert Latest BIOS
Mushkin Redline VX 4000
PCP&C 850W SSI
Radeon X300SE (thus no 3d)

my 7800gtx 256mb versions are awaiting a rebuild of my water cooling loops which I was holding out on until I finished testing out these two chips to see where they would go

So here are the contenders

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a270/djaziz/closeupfx57.jpg

only about 800 bucks difference in price.

And here's the pi. They actually tied for 1M. I didn't bother to upload the picture from the opty, but I pulled the same time tonight.

SuperPi mod1.4 1M

FX @ ~3430 opty148 @ 3490

So far biggest disadvantage is I haven't been able to pull out the dividers I want just quite right to get the most out of my memory with the opteron

SuperPi mod1.4 32M

FX-57

Opty 148

So, that's what $800 extra gets you if you just buy two non hand picked chips.

I'll put these two under dry ice in a week or so, and we'll see what happens.

Nice clock opty there:toast:
Your 57 can go much higher too:)

$800 extra does give you a cpu without multiplier locks :p:
That's why I love my 146 too :D
I have yet to see an older ClawHammer FX-55 beating mine, San Diego FX-55's clock slightly better than my 146 and the FX-57... well it's simply out of reach I think... all this on watercooling mind you :)

Opteron looks great!!!
Impressive clocks.
One of the best CPU if considering the price:)
About ColdBug? @ what temp?

Only single stage so far, I'm getting my dry ice container in a week or so, and I will post up some more results, any advice will help (especially to help out my fx-57 to beat this damn opty)

This is my actual best result under a normal Vapo...ram with not very good timings:

There's FX-57 that go high with air and liquid but don't like the cold...you can't go higher with frequencies?

WeeeFX57 CABNE 0530APMW

I have exactly the same FX :toast: and i was just wondering how high did it go on air ? The one i have becnhes up 3150-3170 @ 1.48-1.50 volts with normal room temp (cooled by Hyper 6 with one fan ) and with open window (not realy cold inside though) it did 3230 @ 1.55V , and its prime stable at 3108 @ 1.48 :) . Will get a Vapo LS this week and will report my results so we can compare our CABNE 0530APMW's :D

And coldbug (if any?) at lower temps than opteron. In fact, most opterons I've seen have cold bugs under DICE or even higher temps.

I got not quite as far on air, I think 3070 was my best prime stable, benched around 3.15 tops for any voltage, but i was on my asus motherboard so who knows

True kiwi, but I'm on water, so no worries here :D
I never ever expected to get a cpu that cheap that clocks about equal compared to the FX-55 :D

Will test my on Vapo LS this week and maybe next week on DI too , with mousepot :toast:

I'll give the FX-57 another shot tonight on the chilly1 unit, who thinks I'll be able to beat out the opty? (opty got a little bit more tweak time than FX got on its day)

Well, 1M is pretty much set, they EXACTLY tie at 24.047s.

32M is looking good for FX, I will post a shot up in approx 21.5 minutes ;)

FX strikes back

I'll give the opty one more shot tmrw as well just to be fair. The clear advantage I see for FX is the memory controller, my opty won't do >260 even with TCCD =\

FX57 can be clocked and benched at much much higher speeds. Thats the beauty of it.

One more 32M w/ opteron. If i could pair up this cpu clock speed with some better ram mhz than about 248, the opty would cream the fx, but the dividers don't work out that way. Oh well it is fun to play with anyways =) I got my dry ice container this week, so I will search for that cold bug temperature. All I know so far is computer boots up fine if I set the controller to power on the cooler at -40C evap temperature.

Time to unleash the true power of your FX. Your 57 will make your opty run the other way with it's tale between its legs ;)
