I noticed a lot of peoples OC'ing stats they try to run stock volts on their opterons, Mine is at almost 1.6v, but I have an xp-90 and heat is fine. Is their any reason I should try to lower the voltage really? Is it just ideal to run at lower voltage but if I see no harm then its okay for me, or is actually degrading the CPU? thanks..

after a year you will notice degrading

Just make sure the temps are under control, it will be fine. Instead of 10 years of life you might get 8 and a half years - which we all know most of us at XS wont have the same CPU in 6 months anyways

Is that prime stable at 3Ghz @ 1.6v?

I have a 146 and 148 I can get over 3Gs but neither are prime stable.

you should be fine with the 1.6v :) I was running on that with my Winchester for almost 10 months before I upgraded to an opteron 148.

Yeah, I acutally have it down to 1.552v now and its prime stable at 3ghz so it should be good, now im wondering if it would be not worth it to bring it back up to 1.6x and try to get some more mhz. I think im going to just leave it.

I wouldn't waste alot time trying to get much further stable with an XP90 unless it'll put your ram in a sweeter spot. I'm at 1.6v myself at 3hgz with watercooling using either BH-5 @ 250 or TCCD @ 300. This seems to work very well for me so far.

higher voltage on A64's especially dual cores is typically resulting in loss of overclockability over a period of time. Sometimes just over a few months. Run it as low as possible while still stable at any given overclock. Even with low temps, this still can and often does happen.

makes sence I will probably leave it at 1.55 or try to drop it down to 1.5 even and see if its still stable.
