Does anyone have an issue with a delayed Windows XP shutdown and the Expert?

I did a clean XP install to single Raptor and immediately had a 45 – 60 sec delay when restarting or shutting down XP…. When you click shutdown, you hear/see the drive activity and see the desktop go away to the banner screen stating “Windows is shutting down”. After a few moments drive activity stops and you’re expecting for the restart/shutdown to continue and it just hangs there.

Here’s what I’ve tried thus far:

Another clean install of XP (No OC – optimized defaults) – No Change
Flashed shipping bios to 11/11 – No Change
Flashed bios to 11/25 – No Change
Switch PS (Fortron 500) to OCZ 520-SLI – No Change
Switched the Patriot Ram 4800 to Corsair XMS 3200 – No Change
Switched the Opty 170 to another 170 – No Change
Switched to a 4800+ - No Change
Switch ATI X1800XL to X850XT – No Change

I’m kinda running out of things to test. Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanx-

I second it. Having the same exact problem.

It's not supposed to do that?

EDIT: regardless of driver combinations, all three XP installs I've had on my non-eXpert SLI-DR have done this, I just kind of thought it was normal

It has nothing to do with Expert per se. I have to systems running Expert mobos just fine.

Sounds like a hanging service or device. Make sure you have shut down in the BIOS all unused devices such as firewire, raid controllers, floppy controller, etc, etc.

Next step. Close all your apps and prepare to shut down. ctr-alt-del and review you running apps. This may give you an idea of whats hanging app wise.

Last, review your error log under Tools and see if you have hanging apps or services there.

Glad it worked out.

Bad advice. The Expert is the better board. I'm not sure I'd recommend the upgrade to the average user, but the Expert is an improvement for the power users.

Can you list some? If my RMA w/ DFI doesn't pull through i might buy a Expert, i'm a pretty serious overclocker...:)

Better vtt tracking, 4 phase power, supposedly more successful at CPU overclocks.

Sorry to say, but 14 months isn't really "all of the sudden." A long delay like that could be expected after such an extended period of install. XP seems prone to deteriorate pretty quickly, so a reformat after 2-6 isn't uncommon.

Also - windows update. This makes changes to programs - so saying all the sudden when you have a piece of software updating multiple components any day... well 14 months aint half bad. I reformat mine about once a month.

Yeah, I love the sight of a nice, clean install. Just the... cleanliness of it all. Awesomistic.

I had the same prob on my DR SLI until i installed the AMD drivers.. Also, you wouldnt happen to have Yahoo Messenger installed would you? Its a common service to get hung up on shutdown.
