I have a nice dual layer dvd burner but I haven't needed to use it until now. I need to burn a data dvd for a friend. What program do you reccomend i should get?

Nero 7 is still fine, but it's trying to be like Roxio and be everything to everyone. For plain copying dvdr's( as legal backup's of course) Nero 6 is fine.
There are many good ways to make a excellent quality backup of a dvd, I personally like using DVD Decrypter and then Pinnacle Instant copy. Not the fastest out there but if quality is the only issue, this is the best I've found.
Good Luck!
PS: Burn slowly!:)

Copy the files you want to the DVD drive letter and paste them there. Windows will do the rest. It's free but very limitied.

Windows does it for DVD's? For some reason I cannot get Windows to even open a blank DVD disc in Explorer. But if I put in a movie DVD it reads it just fine. Also, my LiteOn DVD-RW does display in hardware properties.
My drive came with Nero 7 Essentials but I can't find anywhere on the program where you can burn data onto a DVD

i use nero 7 ultra, and it works great, so that would be my first choice.

What about some kind of freeware or limited time shareware demo?

any reason to get nero 6 over nero 7?
Yes,since Nero 7 has problems with short lead-out...The totally, very best program for DVD-VIDEO is CopyToDvd by VSO software,I have made over 3000 DVDs with it:banana: And remember to use low burning speed, for DVD-5 best is 2X.

I think nero 6 with express feature is great, good quality, and allows me to make customized menus for all of my dvds with music, video animation and clips!

burning slowly is a myth. most media nowdays and burner FW are optimised for their given speed. do some pi/po scans with your drive if it supports and look at the results.
and yes, k3b ported to windows in cygwin (takes a heck of alot of work though)
nero 7.
I found a good freeware program called "CDBurnerXP Pro 3" that burns data DVDs
Worked great.

Sorry man, I don't know if XP handles blank DVDs like CDs. I've been using Roxio 7 and Nero 6 for a while. My bro-in-law got a burner not too long ago and I snagged the Nero 7 that came with it. Do you have the Startsmart option? All I did was click on that and went to the appropriate application.

If all you want to do is burn DVD's and ISO's, there are plenty of free programs out there. I've been using DeepBurner for awhile. Does a good job. And there's a free version.
