Yeah so I just ordered an x800 CF card to mate with my old X800Xl pCI-E... I also got a dfi RDX200 CF board.

A few clarifications:

1) Yeah I know it's not gonna be that fast :p:

2) Yeah I know a single 7800gt will beat it :p:

BUT I just LOVE playing with NEW hardware and NEW tech so THERE you go! So help me prepare here... what will I need to RIP IT UP with:

Opty 150 CABNE 0528 (3D @ 3380 with VapoPE @ 8C idle/ 28C Load)

Solid Copper MOUSE-POT

DFI RDX200-CF

Sapphire X800XL-CF/ATI X800XL

Silverstone 650W-SLI

MUSHKIN REDLINE XP4000 2-2-2/MUSHKIN REDLINE XP4000 2gB 3-3-2

CF OC tips?
RDX2000 tips??

RDX2000 tips??
CF OC tips?

Use 2b02 or later bios build as this for RDX200 fixes hang on boot issue.

CrossFire is straight foward enable through bios and make sure
GFX 0 and 1 are set to 8x.
Dual slot config > enabled
HT PLL high spd > enabled "for high oc'ing"

Orange slots seem to work best for UTT type ram.

HT PLL high spd is only for HTT's in excess of 400mhz I thought?

I just want to see my benches on this...

I can't wait to see x1800XT CrossFire Benches either.

I did some research and figured some things out. The X800 CF card is for ALL X800 applications which certainly means it is a r423 GPU compatible with r430/r423 and X850 CF card is r480...

SOOOO.... I may look for an uber-cheap r423 X800XT off eBay or something to get more UBER oC's.

You see... the X800Xl (r430) is your liability, reaching maybe 450mHz core speed from default 400... the r423 starts at 500 and should go 570.
So the CF card should go like hell and the X800XL will hold it back a bit, which reminds me

HOW do you OC CF cards??? Separately? Together????? How????

from what ati say you don t need to have both card at the same clock to run crossfire

Well in OverClocker I noticed a setting that says Apply to all Devices... So I would assume you can overclock both at the same time as well.

10K in '05 would be nice, agreed??

OverClocker is another program that alot of the x1800 people have been using to overclock.

Otherwise I would have no idea how to overclock a CrossFire Setup.

Charlie I plated around a bit before going and trying to find the max on my 670. I used an older version of ATI Tool which may explain the problems I had. There is a drop down menu in ATI tool to select which card you OC. So each one needs to be OC'd seperately. I will also note that OCing the cpu alons gave me huge jumps. I believe an approx. 700mhz. more on the cpu (from 3.8 to 4.5) gave me an additional 1200 points in 05. GL and have fun. :)

Lol - Use either Atitool or Rivatuner - just make sure to select either GPU in Riva tuner there is a easy to find pulldown in ATItool goto: --> Settings - > Use Device pulldown and select GPU.
Personally haven't tried ATItool yet - prefer Rivatuner...
Did you already buy that X800XL CF? Didn't think ATI was going to release those. X850XTs are a LOT more fun to OC - the XL just don't clock...if you can - I'd say to forgo the XL and go XT. Just my 2 cents

yeah, good call... but I believe the X800 CF card is r423... or x800xt flavor. PLUS I already had the X800Xl laying around... th REAL story WAS that I couldn't find any 7800gtx/512m to pull the trigger on and I wanted something to bench, lol... at least I can plunder the X800 rankings on the ORB!!
:lsfight:

Mmmmm... on second thought, it has no power connector so it MAY be a r430 core which would kinda' suck.

I rememeber reading something about ATI pulling the plug on X800 Crossfire - don't remember where that was - might have been the Inq - lol

GL on the X800 - prepping for X850 myself and just got an amazing slave card from a fellow member here which does 660/660 with stock volts on air! Gonna be fun!

Not sure if it is across the board - but my XT CF has a coldbug - was surprised by that!

ZZF had a few 512s in stock today - for 7minutes! lol

YES! All the late X850 have been amazing clocker compared to early 04 and 05 cards. I'd give 3 thumbs up for $10 more.
Do you know how many pipes the X800 has?

looks like x800cf is a 16 pipe 400/500 card probably r430 core with no external power molex.... so around 450 default core max on air!

But for cost of 2 x 850's and a rdx200-cf i could buy 1x7800gtx-512mb for my sli-dr, lol!

EDIT>>> I'm at step 3 at NE, so can't cancel :( I could refuse shipment when it get's here though....

A container for CPU cooling, to fill in Dryice or LN2. :)

If you're already ordered it, dont worry...X800XL's arent bad by any measure...and even if you were planning on getting an x800xt, ATi sitll recommends the x800cf for it, since an x800xt is not R48x (an x850).

The best deal in crossfire right now is an x800gto2 for $239 (100% unlocable to x850xt) + x850 crossfire for $275 + RDX for $200...which comes to $714.00 for the fastest crossfire setup available todate....not too shabby.

That is not even close to what a decent XT CF setup can do. Like Dynasty said CPU power is king - just like with SLI...

Dry Ice on a FX57 or goood Opty will get you easily 14k - cold on the GPUs and mods 15k.

Do you know which core the X800 CF has?

I agree that the GTO2 is a great deal - but it might be worth while to spend $30-$70 extra and get a XT or XT PE if you going to bench - they are just binned better and give you much more headroom in terms of OC. WHile most GTO2 average 550 on the core - most late XT PE do 600 easily with great mem

Do you know which core the X800 CF has? Same as the X800XL ... R430.

I personally dont think making an xfire setup more expensive than it has to be....i merely stated the gto2 cos the second cheapest X850 16 pipes is the X850 Crossfire...so you'd have to go 2x x850 crossfire editions for the next best bang for the buck...
