Hi.

I've been piddling around with BF2 for ages now, trying to get it working.
But, I just cant get it to run on my PC.
The strange thing is, it wouldnt run on my old PC either.

I'm using:
A8N-SLI
x800GTO2
2x512 Twinmos Memory
3700 AMD 64
Terratec soundcard 24/96
250gb Seagate SATA

Whenever I try and run the game by clicking on the desktop icon - the screen goes back & then the PC crashes so bad, the machine reboots.
I get a blue screen appear for a nanosecond. But no where near long enough to read what it says. You only just manage to spot a flash of blue before the reboot.

I've done some of the stuff like twiddling with the Profiles to alter display settings, but when I do that, the screen goes black and then returns to desktop. Therefore, I dont have the screen incompatability bug. Because when the settings are correct for the monitor, that's when I get the full crash.

Now, the only thing I have in common with this PC, and my previous one is the Terratec 24/96 soundcard. Which I need for Asio drivers & high quality digital converters - I do a lot of audio production stuff you see.

I'm also starting to think that it could be a soundcard issue, since I've searched on the web & nobody else with similar main components to mine have the serious crashing problem that I encounter. AND, when I first loaded the game & you get the microphone test thing with the levels and whatnot, the program comes up with an error message (cant remember what it was) when I clicked on "okay" to set the voice / mic level. Thing is, I cant find a way to rerun that bit to see what the error said.

Any guys got any ideas?

Cheers dood.

When you said:
turn your sound settings as low as they will go. Disable EAX as well. If that doesn't help, try the DXDIAG and turn the sound acceleration level to basic, or off...

Are they option within the game? Or in windows XP?
'Cos I cant even start the game to get into any options or settings.

What's DXDIAG?

Wouldn't run on my A8N sli either - tried a variety of options, all to no avail. Put it on my Intel system and it runs, badly imo, but it runs. Wish I could offer some help, but nothing I did would get it to run ok on the a8n :(

I'd give Joint Operations a go if you can find it cheap - its like BF2 but not quite as much of a resource hog, and its almost one-shot kills rather than 2 magazines to take someone out :p:

Keep trying mate - hope you find a solution..

try running it in a window then if it crashes it may not take the whole system with it.

to run it in a window goto properties on the shortcut and change the target line fullscreen=1 to fullscreen=0

Thanks for all the advice so far.
I've ran DXDIAG now. But everything works okay. Tests all pass.
Also, I've tried running it windowed before, just like mentioned above. But it still takes the whole system down when it crashes.

The mobo I had before was a anv8x. That didn't work either.

Struggling to think of anything more I can do to fix this right now.
It's strange, 'cos all my other games run great. Including FEAR, and COD2, which are renowned system hogs.

Bah.
